| I wanted to either rent, or buy it "On Demand" tonight. Is it available yet? I cant find it On Demand. |
| There's a lot of parts that guys who've been there will roll their eyes at. But it's a good, non-political pro soldier movie that tries to illustrate some aspects of the way to The average American. I thought it was an okay movie and will probably buy it on bluray. |
|
I haven't seen it myself yet, but I have a friend who is Navy EOD and said that the part where a sapper finds a "spider" cord (detonator) and then pulls on it and 3-4 howitzer shells come up out of the sand pretty much killed any hope of technical accuracy.
Apparently those shells that came up like they were hollow and weighed 12 ounces each actually weigh about 130 lbs apiece. |
| It's an entertaining MOVIE that focuses on characters, not a documentary about combat tactics. A good friend of mine is an EOD tech and liked it, said it did a good job of capturing the emotional highs and lows; "hours of monotonous boredom interrupted by moments of sheer horror". The acting was pretty good and the action itself was better than any of the Michael Bay type trash we see half a dozen times a year. |
|
If you want a reasonably entertaining movie that's not anti-soldier,it's not bad. If you want to pick apart some aspects of it such as the Jordanian CH-47's being painted gray for the movie and dragging multiple 155mm rounds by det cord then it's not the movie for you.It requires some degree of suspension of disbelief but it's a movie, not a documentary and I don't believe that it was ever sold as " the definative true tale of EOD in Iraq".
If you do want to watch a couple documentaries, hop over to Netflix and get both Baghdad ER and by every and all means watch Combat Diary:The Marines of Lima Company. As the saying goes here, the room is going to get some kind of dusty when you watch them. However, you must watch the bonus features of Combat Diary where they narrate the slide show and the Major relates confiscating Iraqi porn and defines "Hadithah Hot" etc. |

I watched it last night on PPV and it was a good movie. Well worth seeing. The scene where the E-5 punches the E-7 is totally unbelievable. I suspect in real life that Sgt would have got a courts martial or his ass kicked or both. It was nice to see Evangeline Lilly in the movie. The SFC was an idiot to leave her and go back to Iraq. I have never been to Iraq but I suspect the movie did a great job of showing what a shithole it is. |

What some people dont understand is that movies have to do things this way so that most people will understand whats going on....just like the click click click of an empty semi auto rifle. It tells the lay audience the gun is empty. The movie was entertaining, but there is always a crowd here that just cant watch a movie without seeing some hidden agenda, or pick it apart technically. |
|
It's a good movie some parts leave a lot to be desired technicaly speaking, but like someone stated previously dramatic effect, I have in fact approached a burning VBIED with a fire extinguisher and thought it was the worst idea I ever had at the time ( it worked out I guess). My only complaint is when he leaves the wire. But what your brain goes through when you do this work is pretty accurate.
I would recomend you watch it. |

Yeah, they got little things wrong like only using 4 guys to try and clear/secure a warehouse and stuff like that. Or when a E5 punches an E7 . But the movie is good, it paints American soldiers in a POSITIVE light. So It's not perfect, but it is a good movie. If you want an EXACT account, go watch a documentary, not a movie. |

I am going to apologize for busting your balls in advance

I have been punched kicked by my joes happens all the time I have had 12 stitches in my lip from one of my troops and it was worth every one of them to earn the respect of my troops. I have a wife and two kids I love dearly but there is a sense of clarity in the bombsuit that you will never find anywhere else it's as real as your life will ever get the rush of battle is weird thing it's influence is bigger than you can imagine. |

I viewed it with a packed theater of Libtards who practically sobbed in tears every time someone died or got shot. I about slapped the woman behind me during the Sniper scene. Good movie though, enjoy it. (BTW it's a "toggle switch" not a "deadman") If it was necessary to flip it every 15 minutes to keep the bomb from exploding, it's a dead man's switch. Since they didn't elaborate on what it was used for, it's still possible that it was what he called it. Good movie. |
|
Dead man switch is usualy something that once the person looses control of their body it functions. A prime example would be a handgrenade fuze tied in with detcord held in the persons hand. 95% of the ones I have seen on combatants are grenade fuses. Most of the electrical switch you find in Iraq for firing devices are rocker switches. Most of the suicide vests I have seen use rocker switches.
Please feel free to argue scemantics |

Quoted: I just got done watching it, got it on blu-ray from netflix yesterday. I thought it was an excellent movie. A few parts over the top, as stated before, but I expected anyone to blow up at any time. Well worth watching IMHO. They very artfully were able to build up the suspense. Sometimes I was sitting there are cringed up and thinking "oh fuck, he's about to get blown up". |
|
Entertaining.
That said, if you have worked EOD it will be too frustrating to watch. Just like I hate watching "lawyer movies" for the billion and one mistakes that they make, which cause me to concentrate on the mistakes rather than storyline. As someone with no explosive ordinance disposal experience and willing to give them some creative license I found it very enjoyable. I also thought it was one of the first "A-political" movies done about Iraq that wasn't "in your face" anti-war. |

Quoted:
Never deployed to Iraq but that movie couldn't have been accurate. At all. You mean a little blood won't jam up a Barret? Terrorists don't stand across the street from their IED waving their cell phones, and then blowing them up at the most inopportune time? |
|

Is it any good? I thought so. It wasn't full of liberal propaganda, really. The magnified views through the M68s with no red dot and the no reticle ACOGs were kinda funny. Not too many other technical errors. It was kind of intense and left me feeling a bit odd. Overall pretty good movie and definitely worth watching. |

Yes, but overall, it was good. |
