Has anyone ever done this, and can recommend a shipper?

I'm looking to ship a vehicle from south western PA, to about an hour north of Detroit, MI.

Maybe someone this evening knows something.

Probably not much help for your situation but I shipped my truck and my wife's car when we moved back to Canada from the USA.  The company I used was Sea Rail - don't use them if they're one of your options.

I was going to ship my truck out to Moab Utah for a off roading event and looked into the whole thing,
long story short ....just drive the car to MI

I would if I could.

It's a 1999 VW Jetta with a blown motor. I was looking into putting a TDI (diesel) motor into it, and if I did that I would need to get it up to MI. After really looking into it, and talking to a few people I'm probably just going to drop another 2.0 motor into it.

Why not the tdi?

Not sure which railroad lines run through that region but that would probably be a good place to start.

Are you a member of pirate4x4 (guessing maybe since you have a dirt bike forum name)? I think there is a subforum there for people looking to hire/ looking to work transporting cars.

Go down to a large local car dealer and talk to the reconditioning dept. They probably ship and receive cars on a weekly basis. They should know of a good local shipper. Probably will run you 500-800$ on average.

In the long run it won't be worth the hassle. I'll basically need a rear end totaled TDI as a parts car, and unfortunately that's what everyone looks for. With putting a 2.0 back in, it's just as simple as a swap. With the TDI I'll need to redo the ecu, wiring, fuel system, all that fun stuff.
