I was just watching Special OPS Mission on the military channel and they said simmunitions are illegal for civilians to have, and are only for military and police.  If this is true, why would it be so.  I don't see how it is any different than guys shooting each other with paintballs or airsoft.

There's no law I'm aware of that states it's illegal for simunitions to be sold to civilians.  If such where the case, it would be difficult for the companies that offer simunition training to get simunitions.  However the companies that makes simunitions will not sell them to Joe Blow for liability reasons.

They're not illegal per se,  just not generally available to civilians. Not to mention they're obscenely expensive.

OK.  Well those answers make sense.  I may have misheard then.  Maybe they said not available to civilians, not illegal.

Because you've never been shot by simmunitions.  They can (and do) draw blood, and can be lethal if the proper safety gear is not used.

I am unaware of a law banning them, the company just refuses to sell them to anyone.

i saw that too. i assumed it had something to do w/ people running around w/ rifles shooting each other in the streets and either being mistook for actually shooting each other or accidentally putting a live round in the mag. (both of which idiots are capable of but common sense dictates you wouldt actually do).

that show is pretty nice though

They hurt like hell when your hit by them.  We used them for training and you learn real quick to keep your head down.

Not illegal as far as I know, at least not in NY. The company just won't sell it to individuals.

Yep. They really need to be used by trained instructors with proper ROE.

We used to use them at the place I work. They are the most fun you can have with your pants on. They do hurt like a MF though.

We are all airsoft now. Cheaper and safer.

Oh hell yeah they do. I have a nice one on my forearm that scared up nicely from the simmunition conversion we installed on our 870's. It's just a 357 paint round. But the conversion into a look alike shotgun shell is quite clever. It also doesn't help that I'm newbie on the firearms team, so all the other guys take pleasure in lighting me up with paint.

Yep. They word it totally wrong, when its just the above.

I got my pee-pee slapped for thinking it was what the OP heard.
