Figured I'd ask the hive since my Google-Fu is weak:
Does anyone know where to download USGS Topo map data for printing? We have a large color poster printer here at work that will take map paper and I want to print my own maps. I currently have the USA Photo Maps software from this site: http://jdmcox.com/ but I don't believe it has the legend or UTM overlay. Thanks for any help. |

there are boat loads of places to download topo/map/GIS data. (so many places, it's a freakin zoo out there.. some you can DL for free, some want the money.. you have to search high and low) a lot of the data is for use with GIS software, but I think you want specific maps, such as those you can get at REI or, if you live near the USGS store, go over there at lunch like I do I've seen some places but can't recall who at the moment. this place might be a starting spot if you have GE http://www.usgsquads.com/mapfinder.html there is also an add-on for GE where you can view all the map names (catalog) (it's a layer you can turn on and off) |

Just one more reason ARFCOM is great. Time to re-up my membership =) ETA: Here's another one that is pretty easy to use too: http://libremap.org/data/ |
