My wife and I are set up to go credit-card debt free, plus some reserve, plus some money for me to blow on firearms!

I am itching right now to spend some money in the short term, and while I think I know which way I am going to go, I thought I'd see what the combined experience of GD@arfcom thinks.  How do you think I should blow about $900-$1200?  Here are the options:

1.  Lever action rifle and revolver in .45 LC + dies and reloading components
2.  Cheap AK and Ruger 10/22 + ammo
3.  High-cap handgun and cheap shotgun (suggestions welcome) + ammo (I don't have a shotshell press)
4.  Start the shorty 6.8 build (can't finish in the short term, will need dies and components later)
5.  Silencer for AR (my lot is only 3/4 acres in a subdivision, so this still does not give me a chance to shoot in the back yard)
6.  ACOG for AR

OR

Some different combination of the above purchases (please identify)
Something not on this list (please describe)

Again, I know what I will probably do, but there's nothing funner to think about than spending extra cash on firearms (aside from the usual sex, which is already taken care of).

Very difficult to answer without some idea of what you already have, what you need, and what you want to accomplish with it.

JMHO.

Lever action rifle and revolver in .45 LC

this was my vote. Although, to be truthfull, I'd go with a .44 Magnum. Why go with a lesser-powered combo? You can load your own if you don't like the .44 recoil.

I'd go with a cheap ak and 10/22 or the acog.

I love plinking with my 10/22.

also consider a .22 conversion for an ar15 if you don't want a new weapon platform to spend countless dollars on

modern 45LC ammo is comparable to 44 mag

to be used in modern 45LC firearms only of course.

I lost 4 ARs in a recent boating accident, along with a Ruger Single Six (.22 lr revolver) and a Norinco 1911 knockoff.  All I have left is a practically useless Kel-Tec .32 ACP.  But don't worry, replacing the 4 ARs, the .22 revolver and the cheap 1911 are already in the budget for some point in the future

I don't have much to accomplish...  home defense, range fun and theoretical SHTF...  hunting is a possibility in the distant future (small to medium game only), but that is about it.  Most revolves around range time right now.  Your HO is welcome.

Either would work, as I would reload it...  as long as it is the same caliber between both.  I just haven't priced/researched the models in .44 mag.

Given that, I voted "C" and will further specify a Glock 19 and a Remington 870 –– both used, to afford more ammo (and 'cause used examples of either are in ready supply and tend to be good guns to buy used) and with both long/hunting and short/HD bbls for the 870.

save it for a rainy day?

maybe survival items?

Consider actually SAVING it - unless you have 6 months of income in cash in the bank.

If you don't have a hi-cap pistol and shotgun, I would get the hi-cap pistol and shotgun.

As much as I respect comments like that, agree with them, and accord them the proper place as first in the category of wisdom...  I am going to blow this money and have something firearms-related to show for it, with the full knowledge that I will most likely regret it later.

You didn't suggest a 1911 with post 1911? FAIL!

Sometimes you just have to go out and buy something. At least with firearms stuff you can get back most of the value by selling them later. Tell that to my previous hobbies of blowing money on computers and going out to eat.

I'd say #1 for the most fun, but realistically #2 would be the best option in my case (YMMV, of course).  And I'd look at it as a diversification into precious metals and out of consistently devaluing cash

I like the idea of a .45 long colt lever-action rifle.

Well hell, that's what happens when you don't watch your post count. Last time I looked it was, uh ... 18something, I think. I didn't mention Winchester with post 1894 or Springfield with 1903.

I'm really just waiting to pass post 2000 so I can safely go to WalMart.

Well, it was cheap AK and ruger 10/22.  I did modify my plan based on comments in this thread, and opted to save some cash, not get the 10/22, and look for a .22 conversion for one of my ARs.

So here is the cheap AK I got today (Romanian WASR-10)

ETA:  I'll probably give it the first cleaning during my fishing trip today, while I am on the boat.  Wish me luck.
