I've been in the IT field for 20 years or so and am a network admin for an ISP.  I just bought my first "canned" PC.  Always built them myself before.  Just got a Dell 546 with Windows 7 on it.  Set it up over the Christmas weekend.  It's sweet!  Fast and quiet.  I actually like Windows 7 too!  Hated Vista with a passion.  Stayed on Win XP all through the Vista mess.  I'd buy another decent Dell or an IBM without thinking about it.  Every HP I've ever worked on, be it commercial or corporate, was a piece of crap.

HP corporate stuff is good, but yeah the consumer stuff has been crap.

If you do any gaming, do yourself a favor and get a PC.

I love macs but it you're making the switch you'll have to do some learning.  You won't have the virus and spyware problem but if you're not the geeky type it won't be painless.

I've been doing computers personally and professionally for about 20 years and I've RARELY had a problem with HPs. It does, indeed, sound like YOU may be the issue....

What kind of "problems" have you been having "fixed"?

This is why 99.9% of the people have problems with PCs.

Windows 7 is actually better then XP.

Dells are nice stay away from everyone else, you could also buy a machine from a local computer store if they have some kind of decent tech support deal.

and you could buy a mac simply because the problems you are having are software. then you wouldn't have to worry about it getting something off the net because no one cares enough about macs to actually exploit their OS.

You haven't supported them for PC users.  You underestimate the density of some people.

It sure is...

BTW - I'm posting this from a crappy old Compaq Presario (HP) that I bought new in 2003. The only time I've pulled the tower out from under the desk in the 6+ years since was for a badly needed RAM upgrade. Of course, YRMV.

OP - there is nothing wrong with the PC platform - hit up the Urban Commandos forum here - read, learn, profit?

This works well - I installed that on my wife's new netbook as soon as I set it up on my wireless network.

Also look at Avast or AVG, with Malwarebytes or SuperAntiSpyware. All free, all work well. Just stay the hell away from those Russian hosted fetish porn sites...

Wait, what?

I am far from computer savvy. I completely suck at computers, yet I find my eight month old mac a breeze. Far easier to navigate then PC.
