Thinking of buying a Surefire G2 LED.  Price is $42.00.  Is this model any good?  Good price or should I keep my money?

Not a website deal.  Local place has them 30% off price marked of $60.00.

They have a website, but not online store.  The store is Neuse Sports Shop in Kiinston, NC.  I am going to go get one.  Thanks everyone.

How long would the battery life be with that upgrade?

Not positive, but I would assume (based on other drop in LED's in that lumen range) that you'd be looking at around 2 hrs.

I've been using one on my SBR in a Surefire 6P and it is unbelievably bright –– the throw is outstanding.

The one issue with the G2 LED that many people over look is that the polymer body doesn’t dissipate heat very well.  This translates into the circuitry having to ratchet the brightness back after about 30 minutes to keep the light from cooking itself.  The 6P LED avoids this issues and stays brighter much longer because the aluminum body acts as a heat sink.

What about a metal head on a polymer body?  What's weird to me is that SF is selling the black G2LED with a metal head, but the other colors still come with polymer?

It helps but heat dissipation is really a matter of surface area. 5 inches of aluminum tube will bleed heat much faster than 1 inch because there is much more surface area of a material that conducts heat much better than plastic.

edit to add:

Of course air temperature plays a major role in this as well.  If you’re using your 6P on a summer night in Phoenix it’s not going to dissipate as much heat as it would on winter night in Boston but it will still perform better than the G2 in both cases.

I've read on candle power forums guys getting metal heads for the G2's and it works really good.  I plan on doing that for my old G2.
