Everyone seems to love their Remington or Mossberg shotgun, but there seems to be none for Winchesters. Are the 1200 and 1300 bad quality or is there some other reason?

| I have a Sears M200 which was made by Winchester and is almost an exact copy of the model 1200. I love it and it has never failed me. I also have a Mossberg 500 and it is just fine too. The M200 was a Christmas gift from my dad when I was 14 or 15, and the M500 was my dads and I inherited it when he died. I will be keeping both. |

One thing I do not like on the 1300 is the placement of the controls. The slide release is in a similar to the Mossberg's but not quite in the same place so I find it harder to use, especially with a pistol grip. The safety is also in a less than ideal spot for me compared to a 870 that has a Vang Comp BHS. Also, the actions on the last two 1300s I tried seemed a bit stiff but I am used to 870s and Novas.
I do like the Mossberg 500 like full length mag tube on the 1300 however. |

I've got a 1300 defender, like it a lot. I still wish I hadn't swapped out a Marine defender I had on layaway back in 1996. The defender was lightly used, only $250, stainless with wood furniture, looked great. But, I'd just gotten a CCW, and wanted a smaller carry pistol than the Beretta 92 I had at the time. Since I was in college, funds were short so I canceled the layaway and bought some small makarov type gun, that's long gone. I'd still own that Marine Defender if I'd stuck with it though.
One thing I really like about my defender is that if you keep rearward pressure on the forearm, it'll start to cycle as soon as you pull the trigger, without any forward rocking motion like some slide action shotguns. |

Love the Win 1300. Had a buddy with the old LPD here in Louisville who was issued one "back in the day." He liked it, but said there was some issues with cracking frames.
Biggest problem with the 1200 guns is the lack of replacement parts, IIRC. And, yes, the 1300 with that blond wood forend and stock is sexy. |

Won't you fill us in on that sage knowledge of yours some more? Not sure about the 1200, but the reputation of of 1300 is of being a smooth, light, reliable shotgun. |
| I have had my 1300 for about 22 years. I love it. It has killed a lot of doves a fair amount of ducks, geese and pheasants, and a few cottontails. Its a great trap and skeet gun. Its about smooth as its goanna get. I Inherited my dads and grandpa's model 12's a couple years ago. They both go bang and shoot well. The only other shotgun I own is a 20 ga Browning A5 that was my dads too. I don't own a 870 or mossberg. |
