I was flipping through the channels last night and started watching this old movie with Kate Hepburn, Angela Landsberry and Spencer Tracy set in the late '40's.  The title was "State of the Union" and I'd never heard of it.  It was about a man who was running for President on a wave of populist sentiment.  It showed how as he got into the campaign for the nomination, he became corrupted by all the deals he had to make to get the nomination.

It was amazing that the same level of corruption we see today has always existed in politics.  But, in the end, it was just a movie––Tracy realized what he had become and withdrew instead of the reality of embracing the corruption and selling out the people of this country.

Good movie, though.  They followed it up with "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington".  Kind of interesting that they'd show those two movies in the middle of the Health Care Scam.
