My operating system (windows xp) took a shit and wont load anymore. I can enter setup but thats it, i cant enter safe mode or anything so i was wondering if theres a way to wipe the hard drive and reinstall windows
on it. Ive tried to use the original windows disc to repair it but it doesn't work either plus i lost it so a bought windows 7 32 bit.  is there a ISO file i can copy to a disc that would uninstall windows or anything? am not very
tecky if you haven't noticed. its a inspiron 700m. thanks in advance

Is there an option when you boot up with the original disk to recover the system?
They usually prompt you through the original setup.
If not, but the disk has an actual copy of the OS, it can be done manually, but honestly, if you arent tech savvy its going to be a pain in the ass to reinstall drivers manually.

Doesn't Windows 7 have a utility to format the partition before installing the operating system files?

Yes.  Boot off the DVD then when it asks where you want to install you select the button marked advanced and delete the existing partitions.  Then tell the installer to install into the unpartitioned space and it will take it from there.

Sure it's not a virus? Wicked ones block you from getting past the boot screen so you can't run AV software.....
