Hey my son needs to build something for his Cub Carpenter badge I was thinking of a bat house.

I have found a few on the net..

Anyone have one?

What design did you use?  Any luck?

I got the plans from Mother Earth news several years ago. They had an article by the Bat Conservancy or something like that. Have two bat houses from those plans.
If you need the address I might be able to find it for you next week.
Good luck!

Do you have any luck attracting the little devils?

I just read that little brown bats eat 600 mosquitoes in a night!!

Bring them on!!

Check with Bacardi Rum.  I got plans from them a couple of years ago.  It was the type with boards about 3/4 inches apart covered on three sides and open on the bottom with a baffle tray.

We built one out of rough cedar (easier for the little guys to grab on to) to Fish and Wildlife specs. It looks like a regular birdhouse that you hang on a wall except it has no hole in the font (the bottom is open) and contains about three cedar slats. Seems to work OK. Anything to help reduce the mosquito population.

Don't have to "attract" them. They just show up.
Spend the summer/fall then split.
Cool little guys.

OH yeah.
One in five is supposed to carry rabies.

You can still buy the book, "The Bat House Builder's Handbook" for a mere $7.14.

Bought one and put it up. They seem to prefer my house. I use a tennis racket on 'em.

Sorry for the beating Beekeeper!!!!

I did some rooting around the net and I found this plan.

It looks simple enough for my 8 year old son to complete ( with some help with the power tools).
