Checking it out...

How would the aspiring-to-be-computer-savvy-but-not-quite-there-yet guy make it work?

Make a folder on the root directory of your new domain, dump all your photos up there with an FTP client, then link directly to them like you would a photobucket pic...

Photobucket has worked fine for me for 5+ years.  Never had a problem.

They changed their format recently, apparently resizing was part of it. It's worked fine for me up until now too.

I don't care if they delete all the titty pics, but the resizing thing is full retard.

Havent done it in years so bear with me....

First come up with a domain name. ANYTHING that isnt taken. Register it. I used namecheap.com, but take your pic. Side note...Might not hurt to IM the guy who works for IT at Godaddy, Bet he could get you started.

Anyways find a host that uses Fantastico, it auto installs all the shit you want. Use Fantastico to install Coppermine and voila.

Its one of those things thats not hard, but it damn sure isnt "I've never used a PC and I want my own photosite" easy either.

ETA

This guy.

Also, this route is not free.

Damn I've been using them for four years now. Other sites I used blew away in the middle of the night without so much as a farewell. They recently changed their user interface - are you sure you're using it right?

No change in my photos. Non-paid account.

I've never had a problem with my Photobucket account either.

But I have been getting a message that I've nearly used all my free, available monthly bandwidth for the past two or three months. But when I check the stats on my account I get a message "Not enough traffic to build a graph" or such.

I'm begining to think they're trying to scare me into upgrading to a paid account.

Wow! Hadn't seen that before. Even found out which pics were being seen the most. Looks like there is an incredible amount of people visiting FALARAK's tacked thread in the Build It Yourself forum. I have several pictures comparing buttstocks and hardware in it. Good to know people are taking advantage of them.
