First time ever. On a website I moderate. Guy took several members. I am only out $50 but at least one guy is out $400. I know I can file a dispute or whatever. Would rather track the guy down...........

Define "scammed using paypal". Did you go to a phishing site and have money taken from your bank account? Or did you get "scammed" in the sense you paid for a product and never received it? If #1, your bank should be help to refund your money. If #2, your only real recourse is Paypal. |

Paid for something and never got it. Guy was selling something and it was all a scam. He never had the items. I dealt with this 5 days ago. Call them on the phone after your claim is filed and found in your favor (takes a week). If the CS rep does not help ask for a senior rep. Paypal will make it right you just have to talk to the right people. I doubt you will be able to recover funds for other people, let them fight their own battles. edit: as of Nov 1st paypal guarantees all transactions not just ebay stuff. |

Quoted: For crying out loud, why are people still using Paypal? Because if you buy something with a money order, and the person doesn't ship your item, you have no recourse. Because if you pay with a personal check, your check can be washed. Because if you pay with cash... Paypal backed with a credit card has two options for recourse. 1) Paypal, which 99% sides with the buyer 2) Credit card which makes charge backs pretty simple and sure fire. It doesn't get better than that. |

The fact they are opposed to the Second Amendment ought to be reason enough, but these guys are crooks, plain and simple. |

Is it because the fees are too high or something truly sinister? |
| Paypal disputes take a while if the seller does not respond. I got scammed on a laser-jammer buy along with a couple others on a car website. Paypal may side with you, but if the scammer has withdrawn the funds, they won't give you your money back. What you need to do is file a dispute with your cc company because they are really the only ones who can get you your money back. |

If your a seller they will immediately claim you violated the seller protection guarantee 99.99% of the time, freeze your account forever while refusing to talk to you unless you subpoena the information you're requesting. And if the "buyer" has withdrawn the funds they will just tell you tough shit and that you're out the money. There are a couple of class action suits going on against them. One of the judges has called their user agreement the most unconscionable legal document he's ever seen. Use them at your own risk. Use them long enough and you will have a problem with them. |

I signed up as a merchant with them for my website, in order to take credit cards online and on my iPhone. I paid my $30 / month, got it all in order... and they froze my account without telling me. It took me a week to straighten it out, but it wasn't *hard* per se. They are a big company, you have to know how to deal with their internal policies. Its a skill, I suppose.
