| Why is it that that anyone that owns a m16,ar,or ak looked down on by the public?I love my ar but its funny how someones face will change as soon as they see it,or find out i have one!Does this happen to any of u? |
| Being in FL, it's rare to find someone that is anti-gun or hates 'evil assault weapons'. Majority of people seem to be open minded, neutral but interested in shooting them. I've never seen a person flat out refuse to try one. If you go to Tallahassee or Miami opinions might change, but for the most part, the Gunshine State joke sticks. |

Just stay cool and answer them as if they were serious. I don't have a machine gun, but if I could afford one I would! Everyone should be required to own one of these! |
| People are programmed by the media and their professors if in college to believe such guns serve no purpose for anyone but the military, I deal with this anytime I mention my AR which is rarely. I need to be around someone and trust them not to freak before I even begin to discuss firearms of any type. |

I get that response to my handguns.
I had a surprise visit from some friends while I had my Sigma, Bersa and Police Positive out to clean and they took one look at them and the eyes got big. "Why do you need those?" "Why do you need so many?" I think it was the blued finish on the Bersa and the revolver that really freaked them out. |

Leftist propaganda. What GR said above. People have been conditioned to be scared of them, and they are naturally afraid of something they don't understand. Silly, yes, but true. |

I don't associate with any anti-gunners. The libtards I'm forced to work with have no idea of my collection that went down in the boat fire. OPSEC!!!! its not just anti-gunners.I have even got that reaction from a few gun owners also! Most thank its cool as hell. But why would some gun owners react this way? |

Maybe they don't look down on you. Maybe it's that kind of suspicion that says "Why has this person got one of these? What does he know that I don't?" Don't have that problem in the UK........ most people over here don't know the difference between a rifle and a shotgun......let alone an AR15. IN fact they only ever see guns in films so an AK or AR is pretty much what they expect. Most people want to have a go though

OPSEC is priority one. about 8 or 9 years ago the receptionist at my work mentioned that wearing my Schrade Uncle Henry on my belt made her nervous... she didn't like it and was gonna tell on me... I lol'd and told her "then don't look in my breifcase..." flash-forward to today.... zero issues. hell, one of the "equity level" engineers has even remarked that it's nice to have an armed Vet who is proficient on the premesis "just in case.... saves a salary" WTF-lol
you see, we are directly across a sidewalk from a MHMR Anger Management office... we sometimes make bets when we see one of them sprinting across the grounds.. lol we also get a lot of orange jumpsuits at the same county admin office building... usually escorted, but not always. usually goes about like this. "do ya think he will make it?" "naw.. bet he goes down before the second row of parking... lol" "crap, you win again" I have gotten it from "friends" over the years.. you know.. the OMFG what is that?.. and why do YOU have one?!?!?!?!?! I just ask them what changed between ten minutes ago and now... answer, "nothing other than you now know I own a firearm... and BTW, I've owned this one longer than I have known you." it usually shuts them up.... or minimally makes them pause just a moment to reflect on their foolishness. |

For me, older folks seem to always say "What do you need with a 'machine gun'?" and "Isn't that against the law?" Others seem to fear what they do not know, much like alot of women don't like guns. They just never had anyone show them that they are a tool and not a timebomb. Alot of hunters are indifferent to them. As long as their deer guns are safe, they don't care. Alot of younger people get wide eyed and interested if you show the gun to them, and/or let them shoot it.
Two things: Getting young people involved in shooting, and more specifically shooting AR's, is important. Secondly, you are seeing more and more Ar's used to hunt, especially with the rise of alternative calibers. This will hopefully change some things with many hunters. Think back, at one time people used single and double barresls. Semi-auto's came along and were accepted because of their advantages. Ar's could be the next semi- auto to gain acceptance. |

I showed a guy one of my AR's at work and he thought it was cool looking. He's a good ole boy from Texas, and he said it was kind of exciting to see something like that because "I dont get to see something like that every day!' I told him "I do." |

One funny encounter I had:
My son and I were at a hunting lease and had shot a hog with one of my AR-15's. Pulled up to the camp house with the AR in the Kawasaki Mule's gun rack and the hog in the bed. One of the members that was there commented "You've been using that thing, kinda dangerous" (referring to the evil looking AR-15). That genius was out there deer hunting with a Ruger M77 chambered in .223. I pulled the magazine and told him to check out the dangerous rounds, he didn't have much of a retort. |
