Wolf .223 for $2.19 a box. That works out to $109.50 a case! (1000 rounds)
But I never bought Wolf ammo. I shoot only reloadable brass, and I DO reload .223.
I've bought Winchester white box .223 (5.56 nato, actually) for $3.75 a box, which would be $187.50 for a case of a thousand. Not bad, for good ammo!
I figured my reloading costs and it turns out that my reloads are barely worth it, if it weren't for the total assured quality I put into each round. I KNOW my .223's have the right charge in them, and I know they're consistent. But I'm currently making them for a materials cost of $3.61 a box, not counting time or the investment in the equipment. Not much savings, but what the heck...I like doing it.
Then again, the "retail" price on PMC .223 around here is $5.25 a box! Maybe reloading IS worth it after all!
If I can find a CHEAP source for Winchester primers and powder, I may be able to cut costs substantially.
