6th home invasion reported in Paradise Valley

The Arizona Republic .
A Paradise Valley couple were robbed in their home over the weekend in what police say is the sixth home invasion that could be linked to the same intruder or intruders, police said.

At 8:20 p.m. Friday, a man broke into a house through a bedroom window in the 5600 block of North Yucca Road while two people were inside.

No injuries were reported, but the robber had a handgun. The intruder, a man, ran off with an undisclosed amount of cash and jewelry. Scottsdale police assisted in the search.

When asked if the town planned any community meeting on the incidents, Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker said Monday he is meeting Tuesday with Police Chief John Bennett and Town Manager Jim Bacon to discuss how to disseminate information to the public.

"The bottom line is we are going to take some steps to inform the public as to what is going on," Parker said.

He said the town has directed a tremendous amount of resources to get more officers on the street.

Investigation was ongoing, but police believe the incident to be related to the five other Paradise Valley home-invasion robberies that have occurred since October.

Police are telling residents to turn on all their exterior lights, keep their alarm systems on and their garage doors closed even when home, use their car brights when entering their driveways at night, and to report any suspicious vehicles on their street to police.

Break into a house in the 'hood, and you are greeted by a banger.

Break into a house where people live in a world of unicorns that poop Skittles, and you'll meet little resistance.

A sheriff's deputy neighbor told me a few years ago that practically all home invasions were drug related.  I wonder if that's changed.

It has here, many times it is either random or because the perps casually cased the place.  I was on the Grand Jury out here and saw some of these cases.  Not 3 miles away from me an elderly couple had two folks bust in using a similar technique.  These two old folks had zero ties to drugs, illegal immigration, gun running out of Nicaragua, or anything of the like.
