I got a new computer and am trying to move all of my music from my old computer to my new one. I downloaded iTunes onto my new computer and first tried syncing my iPhone to it, but I got a message saying that it would delete everything on my iPhone and replace it with the library on my new computer (which is empty). Then I tried copying and pasting my old computer's library to my new one using my home network, but it wouldn't paste into my new library. Any ideas? If Apple had a support line, I'd call it but of course they don't. This Apple non-pirate bullshit seriously pisses me off. If I could start all over, I'd have stayed away from Apple. ETA: New computer is Windows 7, and the old one is XP. |

Quoted: Open iTunes and enable the home sharing feature I got them to show up in the shared folder using the home sharing feature, but I couldn't copy them onto my new computer's hard drive. I don't plan on using my old computer once everything gets moved over, so I don't want to have to turn it on to listen to music on my new one. |

Put all of the music in one folder on the old one, when you have both computers on and connected to eachother, use the itunes in the new one to go to the public folder to your music and select it, the add folder button should be on the itunes menu somewhere. Google how to do this if you don't know, I figured it out by guessing and I used it to move songs between laptops before home sharing.
ETA, I do mean the public music folder if you are using windows, not a part of itunes, but in your my computer section I think. |

Quoted: I dont know....maybe its because all of my music was purchased from itunes, when I got a new comp everything automatically went to my new pc. when I installed itunes. You could also burn the music to a cd and transfer it to the new pc I've never had that work with iTunes due to the DRM. I'm trying to move music between two computers, not to a different location on the same computer. |

There was an announcement like a year ago that all iTunes purchased music was now DRM free I thought. Anyways, if you login with your iTunes account on the new computer it should allow you to move the files over. |

ETA: I already signed in to my iTunes account and authorized my new computer. |

Quoted: You can backup your iTunes library to an external HD, and then restore on the new machine. Don't have an external HD, but it sounds like I could use DVDs. I'll try that if I can't get this Home Sharing thing to work (which would be nice since it would only take a few clicks instead of burning DVDs). |

This is what I used to move everything from Windows to Mac. It says it works the other way around too.
It has a free trial period, too. http://thelittleappfactory.com/irip/ This means you would have to have an Ipod, though. Now my library has grown to the point that having a separate hard drive just makes sense. Good luck. All computers suck when things aren't strait forward. |

Quoted: I got a 1TB MyBook last night at wally world for $79. Might be something to look into. No one likes to lose their shit. What's a MyBook? Is that an external hard drive? Sounds like a good idea. I have a bunch of pics, vids, etc that I need to transfer over as well, so that may be a good idea. |
