I've been wearing New Balance for as long as I can remember, they're the only sneakers that fit my weird feet right. I just went to search for a new pair of every-day wear sneakers and the few modelsI tried on felt kind of chinsy. Is it me, or are they slipping in quality?

Go online to their site and do a search for 'made in USA'.  Those shoes are top notch quality.

Was a NB guy, but the EE seems like the old standard width and EEEE is toooo wide.
I've been wearing Keens for a while now.

Some are made in China now.  Not the cheap-o ones either.  Whatever the ones I bought 2 months back were $100 and were made in china.  I was pissed because I looked at all of their models except the one I bought to see where it was made.  Figured that 6 out of 7 made in USA was a good chance that the ones I got were too, but apparently they were chinese.

Still wear good.  I just did my first road race after starting running only 2 months ago.   5 mile turkey trot on thanksgiving.  Only cut a 1hr 2mins, but there are a lot of hills, and I really did just get off my ass one day and said "start running you slob" and went at it.  Next year, I'll do 42 mins.

I've been wearing NB 575s ever since I had to start using AFOs (ankle-foot orthotics) to walk.

The 575s are tough as hell, comfortable, reasonably priced.

I'd give New Balance a

I have wide feet and very few athletic shoe manufacturers make shoes for people who wear wide shoes.  NB, Brooks and ASIC are a few that make more than one style of shoe for people with wide feet.

Wearing 544's right now.  Why is it that only these lower-healed ones don't make my feet hurt?

New Bizalance is the shizzle yo!

Seriously, been wearing them for years, most comfortable tennis shoes out there.

I stopped buying their $100+ running shoes. They kept falling apart or wearing out prematurely. I've been happy with Brooks Beast, I got 13 EEEE feet so not too many choices out there.

I find the overall "chinsy" feel varies greatly depending on the model.   Try a bunch of models till you find a more solid pair.   I know exactly what you're talking about though.

Most used to be made in the USA but most are now made in china. Due to that fact, I now but mostly Nike or Reebok as I can find them just as cheap.

You sure about that?

I used to wear NB but I could have sworn the last pair I bought were NOT made in USA.

Something somewhere changed because the last pair I bought that were the same style/model/size of previous shoes I'd worn
this new pair for some reason caused me a good deal of pain in my feet. They also work out funny on the inside towards the ball of my feet.

I switched to something else.

Only certain models are made in the USA. New Balance's "Made in the USA" and "Assembled in the USA" models (click on "Our Shoes" at the top and select how USA-ish you want to buy).

I have not worn sneakers, or the like since I read "Bonfires of the Vanities" By Tom Wolfe.  That was, I believe, sometime in the '80s'.  As I recall, an excellent read.  Footwear makes the Man, so says Mr. Wolfe.
