My boss just bought a Lynksys N wireless router. His laptop sees the network, but when he tries to login with his passphrase, nothing happens. His desk top(which one of his buddies set up as wireless)works just fine. Any ideas? Lynksys couldn't even get it going. Sorry, that's all I have.

Thanks in advance!

Mac address filtering maybe?

You'll need to find the mac address of the computer.  It doesn't matter if the computer isn't a Mac, the wireless card will have a mac address.  Pull up the page for the router.  Find the mac address filtering section.  Enter the mac address of the laptop.

Mac address filtering is a lower level security way of keeping people off your bandwidth.  Most people couldn't steal bandwidth if you left the password empty and just enabled mac address filtering.

Nothing happens? You mean it doesn't connect? If so then you have the passphrase fucked up, or the drivers may need to be updated.

Nothing happens as in it connects to the wireless but you can't get to the internet? Then make sure you have DHCP enabled (if you are using it.)

Make sure the laptop is reading the same security fomat - all of them - the same.

WPA v. WPA-PSK (TKIP) as an example
