No napkin, no rifle, no sidearm, no beverage. Talons qualify as a tactical knife, I suppose, and he gets some points for killing it himself, but this is why the bald eagle is our national symbol.
3/10 ETA: Those are some awesome pictures. Thanks for sharing! Also, smart kitty.

Quoted: Not a golden eagle, its a young bald eagle. They don't get the white head and tail till at least 5 years old. I knew that was a possibility... and knew he was immature no matter what. What are the tell tale differences between the two, I'm having trouble. |

I've got two bald eagles and a golden eagle living somewhere pretty close to my property. I've been seeing the three of them (not always together, usually two at a time) on an almost daily basis for the past few weeks as they pick clean a deer carcass in a field close by. Pretty cool stuff!

Awesome shots OP-but are you sure it's a golden? The breast mottling makes it look more to me like a young(2 years or younger) bald eagle. Did it have a white band across the tail? Sure sign of a young golden if it did(making me wrong).
Either way, nice pics and thanks for posting. |

Quoted: wait so the eagle grabbed a hunk of your cat? thats friggin awesome! you should put the cat under a glass buggle and take pictures of the eagle trying to get at it ![]() Actually, I'm quite confident it is the heart of a doe I shot about 1/4 mile from my house the day before. Cool idea though... the indians used to cover themselves in leaves and sticks holding meat waiting for an eagle to land on them... and WHAM!!! |

Cool idea though... the indians used to cover themselves in leaves and sticks holding meat waiting for an eagle to land on them... and WHAM!!! Yep, and some tribes(don't remember which) would pluck a couple feathers and let the eagle go, due to a belief that it was taboo to actually "harm", especially to kill the eagle. Other tribes would get the feathers any way they could, but I believe if the eagle was killed it had to be in a specified way. |

Thats not a Bald Eagle is it? I thought they had white heads. As said farther up the thread, they don't get their white head and tail until 4-5 years old. It's a cumulative process that starts at around 3 and slowly completes. Until that a bald eagle looks like the above picture. There are 3 nests within an hour of my house, I was able to watch two of them for most of the summer-couldn't stay for very long before the mother got annoyed with me*(watched from the road, nests are about 200 yards off) |
