With near every thread (all of the ones I've seen) about Religion; God vs No God; Atheism; etc; Turning into flame wars, disrespectful debate, mean spirited argument (On both sides of the issue(s)) Is there a reason that the Management hasn't expressly banned such discussion?

I'm not advocating the ban of such threads, but wondering why it has not been done

Because Site Staff live in hope that someday people will follow the rules and actually show respect for divergent opinions.

Silly children.

chili without beans is a false religion and must be dispelled.  Texans gotta see the light!

I'm down with either as long as it has meat in it

there is a religion thread.  folks posting religion topics in GD are probably trying extra hard to stir shit up while trying not to seem like an obvious troll.  or at least thats my opinion

We try not to ban topics.  It really is that simple.

Persistent problem posters show themselves and are dealt with––as in "comply (with the rules) or die."

Religion threads are ok, as long as folks can be respectful of one another.....but this isn't always the case.

"religion threads" have nothing to do with locks, bans or thread locks.

Disrespect and a mean spirit are not banned by the Code of Conduct.

If you're sensitive about a topic, don't read the thread.  The Religion forum will be better behaved and you might be comfortable there.

But, you can use threads in GD to forge your own character by learning what you really believe, how to express that, how to argue your point,  plus patience and tolerance.  You can let adversity and conflict toughen you up, or scare you away.  Either way, it's your choice.

yea, dont take religious debates as anything other than....debate. it is more meant to be a learning experience with arguments and counter-arguments. religion just happens to be something a lot of people are quite passionate about. use the discussion as a learning experience vs an attack on your beliefs.

Some folks mistake "differences of opinion" with "mean spirited".

We can and often do, disagree without being disagreeable.

As long as each side stays within the COC, we ought to be able to discuss any subject in "General Discussion".

However, get outside the COC, and the wrath of God (or at least TheBeeKeeper1) will descend upon you.
