Bushmaster .450 Caliber. 20" or 16" w. Izzy Brake.

So... what's an Izzy and why do I want it over a birdcage or vortex?

Ban-era doo-hickey.

You probably don't.

Why would you want anything broke?

The Izzy flash hider works well for flash and muzzle climb. I dont knwo about the brake though.

This.
It's a loud obnoxious muzzle brake. During the ban, manufacturers were left with a bunch of threaded barrels they couldn't sell unless a brake was permanently attached (flash hiders were banned)

Then again, on a .450 cal semi-auto, a brake wouldn't be that bad of an idea...

I think you guys are getting the Izzy confused with the Y-Comp/Mini Y-Comp

300 men's wearhouse. I actually thought it was a 300 Phil Donahue but I guess that's even before your time.

The Izzy is Bushmaster's house brand of long flash hiders and muzzle brakes.  They are cheaper for them to install than Vortex, Phantom, or others.

forget the Izzy. Just get a mini Y comp. The guy shooting next to you will love it!

Bushmaster makes an Izzy Flash hider, and an Izzy brake.

The Flash hider has an open front end, and performs much more like a Birdcage or Vortex, reducing flash, but not doing too much to reduce muzzle climb.

The Brake looks just like the flash hider, but has a closed front end, with a hole only the diameter of the bullet.   Unlike the flash hider, this will be much louder, and not perfrom as well at hiding the flash, but it will reduce muzzle climb.

OK. Does anyone make a 450 flash hider that works well?

I had an Izzy Brake on my first bushmaster during the ban.

It was noticably louder but not as crazy loud as the mini-Y-comp.

Its Bushmaster's Phantom clone, in brake or flash hider. And it works a lot better than an A1/A2 birdcage.

I think you'll have to call Bushmaster and find out what the threading is on their .450 barrels.

Smith makes the Vortex, which seems like one of the best flash suppresors out there now, with 3 different threadings for bigger caliber rounds.  If Bushmaster matches any of the threadings listed on the Smith website, you might be able to mount a Vortex on it. Check out the threadings on their 1000V and 1009V models.  Those models are listed as only good upto .30 caliber though.  You may be stuck with whatever Bushmaster makes in house.

Here's an excellent video demoing a number of flash hiders, including the A2, Phantom, and Vortex.  The Vortex seemed to perform the best.

I have a Bushmaster Izzy on one of my rifles and I "lovingly" call it a flash enhancer
IMHO their only purpose is looks in places where flash hiders are prohibited.

Do you have the brake of the flash hider? I have the flash hider and its works ok.
