Going Galt, who is onboard?

Stop enabling the looters, without productive people, there is nothing left to loot and the system is exposed.

Depending on how this health care thing goes (and where it leads taxes) I may seriously consider it. I have no dependents and large savings. If they ratchet up taxes more I'll just quit my job and work for cash.

I think a tax revolt will happen... not because all of a sudden everyone will get brave but, rather, the beast that is .gov is insatiable and will keep taking more and more and more until it reaches that breaking point.  Where is that point?  No idea... but desperate people do desperate things.

Cutting back my work hours as of the first of the year.  I'd rather spend time with my kids than bust my hump to make more money, only to get a MUCH bigger percentage taken by the fedgov.

What we need is for a state, any state to stand up and say hands off.  We don't want your federal dollars and we aren't giving you any of our own.  Then bring everything down to the State, municiple level.  This would be a huge leap forward.  Make it very unfriendly to welfare leeches (drug tests, must actively participate - if you can't find a job we'll give you one picking fruit ect.)  I'd move there in a heartbeat and I'm sure many productive members of society would too.

What's everyone going to do?  There are only so many jobs that can pay in cash.  Yes, some people can barter and whatnot, but most folks here don't make tradable goods.  There's only so much that can be done.

They have rules in place to make this impossible. I looked into it.

You would have to sell your home and cars, and empty your bank accounts. Basically, in order to live off the government tit, you need to be jobless and homeless. It helps if you can get diagnosed with a chronic mental illness as well. Unfortunately, you probably won't be able to own guns after that kind of diagnosis.

One is achievable, the other (practically speaking) isn't.  I can quit my job at any time and find a new one flipping burgers, mowing lawns, etc., and anyone can do the same (more or less).  The more people that do so, the better, and eventually the gears stop turning as nobody with a brain (or half of one) is left to pay for all the looters spending habits.

When they pass this healthcare reform crap, I am going to spend every free moment carting every bum I can to the hospitals.  Everytime I have even the slightest feeling that I might be sick or getting sick, I will make appointments with every doctor possible.  I will clog the system with my healthcare "needs" and the "needs" of as many bums as I can find.  I will do whatever I legally can to maximize use and economically cripple the healthcare system.  If the masses want to destroy freedom, it is time to help them get what they want as fast as possible in the hopes that the people will realize that we didn't need "healthcare reform," we needed "government reform."

ETA:  This is really more like "Going Danneskjold" than "Going Galt."  I'm cool with that.

That's not really required - just a lower paying job with few responsibilities (low enough wages to require subsidies - think less taxes in, more out).

There will be a tipping point where people will stop busting ass 50-60-80 hours a week to handover 50%-60%-80% of their pay to the gov't.

What kind of pony? Like an injun pony with cool symbols painted on it? I was watching Deadwood a couple nights ago where Bullock got in a fight with that Indian, and that Indian's horse had markings on it to symbolize how many men that Indian had killed. Maybe I should get some of those symbols made into stickers and put them on my truck. Now THAT would be badass.

Oh wait, what was this thread about again?

I am not capable of going Galt. I can't turn my mind off, and need to strive to not be a miserable asshole. I would rather work my ass off, give half of it to the .gov, than to be working in a kitchen without having a good use of my mind. I just, flat out, can't do it at this point.

Nobody's asking you to turn your mind off, Galt couldn't do it, I can't either. Just quit letting them profit from it, put it to work for you, your family, and nobody else.

What do you want?

If you say "a pile of money", I'm probably going to think you're an idiot. There's a very few Midas-types around who want money just for the visceral thrill holding currency offers, but most people want what money buys, not the money itself.

If you have a mind that really won't turn off, make a list of what you want to use that money to buy, and within ten years, you'll not only figure out how to cut past the middle man, work directly for whatever it is you want, leaving currency and therefore taxes paid to parasites completely out of the equation, you'll also be well down the road to having it...all of it.

I went Galt 30 years ago. Framed houses for 20 years, ran computer networks for ten, (bottom dollar night sysop for a global airline) and even though construction is at least half cash under the table jobs, I made sure to paid the minimal amount the law said I owed, every year. Staying off the radar, capisce? Nights, weekends, between jobs, I was working for myself, picking up the tools and building what I wanted. Worked on my own car, knowing it was done right and wouldn't let me down when I needed it. Built all my own computers from mostly junk parts, secondhand musical instruments and tools, learned to enjoy the simpler cheaper pleasures, live music with friends, camping, climbing, backpacking, woodworking, reading, etc. When you live for real pleasure, instead of a bunch of shiny jewjaws they say you have to have, money tends to pile up over time, even on low wages.

Waited and talked to people, (listened mostly), found the perfect plot of land for me at a steal of a price, put my own house up, did my own landscaping, and the pole barn (office, fabrication shop, lab, network core, studio) goes up next spring. I've already solved some real puzzles...in meteorology, energy, physics....there's probably quite a bit of money in those solutions, but I found out a long time ago...their money is their trap...the currency and the quest for it is the precise chain they enslave you with.

No thanks.

Bypass their money, and work directly towards that which you must pursue, and live as peaceful and happy as you can imagine...or keep being their slave...Dagny.

About a decade ago I decided I would be a happier person if I did things for myself rather than earning money to pay others to do some things for me.

I tend to repair my vehicle when I can do so, much cheaper than earning money and paying taxes on that money so I can pay someone else to repair my vehicle and then they have to pay taxes on that money as well.

I do most home repairs when possable and similar stuff.

That said, I still like to let others do some stuff for me but I try to find ways to save my money when buying stuff since it is hard to earn money these days and actually get it into my wallet.

I am not going to drop out and do nothing or live on welfare, I don't believe I would be happy at that level.

Everyone has to decide what works for them.

For me I make choices on when I can do something myself and when I can't, and I don't mind having to buy tools to do a repair myself since it usually does not cost more than having someone else do the repair.

/\ This.

Doesn't truly mean that you need to go and work in a railyard doing the worst work you can find for the least money to me (yet anyways). But stop busting your ass nonstop so that what you produce can be siphoned off to the NON PRODUCTIVE rich and the NON PRODUCTIVE poor. The non productive rich loaned out money that rightfully belonged to the productive, and are now getting bailed out wholesale - milllion dollar bonuses and absurd profit on top of that. Think wall street, inherited billionaires, etc. The non productive poor are coming out of this current crisis like bandits. Don't think welfare reciepients, medicare or food stamp users. Those people are MUCH, MUCH richer than most of the real leeches as they have net worths of zero to slightly negative. The real leeches are the "middle class" retards who owe $500,000 on a house that is "theirs", $80,000 on credit card debt, etc, and have net worths of -$800,000. These people are getting interest rates dropped, debt forgiven, etc. More resources are flowing to this problem right now than welfare.

Personally, I am already there - or in process of "going Galt". It isn't worth busting ass all the time when you have to carry 20 people on your back. I'd rather ride right now personally.
