It should be random and mandatory.

I'd like to see it on a ballot someday. What do you think?

Yes, a taste of their own medicine.   Then when some fail, the system will change.

If anything, they'll get busted for cocaine.

After the cokeheads are kicked out of office, who the hell is going to stay up for those 3am debate sessions?

Yes,absolutely.

If a Marine gets thrown out of the service for enjoying some herb then the cockholster that's snorting a couple lines before sending said Marine into danger should also be thrown out of public service.

Obviously, the immediate danger of someone in the service using drugs is much greater than somebody in DC doing the same but as long as they want to keep funding the War on Drugs, our servants ( HA!) should be held to the same standard they want everyone else to adhere to.

For the record,I have never done an illegal drug and the last time I has alcohol was the last time I had communion almost 20 years ago.I've been drug free my entire adult life.

"All" citizens aren't asking for positions of power and privilege.  Pollys are.
Make em  pee in a cup on a regular basis.  It's a good idea and a good way
to keep them humble.   That's why it will never happen.

unless you're on welfare , your job usually does randoms nowadays . The only way to get employers OUT of your personal life is to start treating Politicals like what they are...OUR employees.

Many of us are subject to random drug tests.  Hell, tests are required for many jobs.  Elected officials should be held to the same (if not higher) standards.  If someone is casting votes representing ME, I want to know if they're high or not.

Im what Dave_A would call a "loonie"-tarian when it comes to the Drug issue, but in my mind "What is good for the goose......."
Im sick of hypocrites saying "just say no" and then snorting meth off some male hookers dick in private. Hazaah!
Watch those fucks squirm or suddenly change their tune about harsh drug laws when it comes their turn to prove their "purity"
You know every one is a born again, pro lifer until their daughter gets raped and impregnated by a Crip.

My union accepeted the drug testing proposed by the employers on the condition that the employer and office staff would also take the test.

After three years it was discovered that the office is filled with druggies and stoners.

Since then they have not been too keen to enforce the drug testing on us union fodder.

Nope.

I would be in favor of much stricter job performance testing though...

Not only should they be subjected to drug testings, their financial statements should be closely monitor, and they should be subjected to monthly psych evals.

I can tell you right now, the majority of Congress would fail one of the above. Some would fail all 3.

Well, as Dave_A likes to say... if the majority of the population decides that is what it wants - then it's all good.

In this case, they ARE our servants that we "hire and fire" when it comes to elections.

I'd be cool with it, honestly.

I'm all for making them adhere to the same standards as all other federal employees.  Including drug testing, psych evals, credit checks, birth cer...

Drug tests and water boarding, says I.   But the thing they fear most after losing a free ride at the public expense is losing their special privilege gov. insurance.   Tea parties and others need to be shouting this more.

NO !!!!!!

I'm all for reducing the hypocrisy these fools flaunt daily. But drug testing is fundamentally Un-American. Drug testing is based on the premise of "Guilty untill proven innocent". Kinda the opposite of the basis of our justice system. Drug testing is an absolute assault on liberties and privacy IMO.

Say "NO" to drugs , but shout "NO" to drug testing.

As long as they deem it necessary for federal employees in the .mil, and other alphabet agencies I CERTAINLY think it's fair to have them subjected to their own rules.

Plus, last I checked you don't get locked up from failing a drug test.

Private employers, I support the right for them to CHOOSE if they want to test employees or not, as a term of the employment contract.  Employee can decline to work there, etc.

Federal?  Well, lawmakers decided that mandatory testing was required to work for the .gov in most areas.  I don't see how they are different.

I also vote no for the same reason. I am against all drug testing on principal.

If someone is behaving abnormally, fire them for that reason.

You don't need to know that the abnormal behavior was caused by drugs.

ETA: The obligatory "And I've never tried (non prescription) drugs myself".
