I like this time of year, all kinds of neat stuff starts showing up in the store. Kumquats, Pomegranates, Valencia Oranges, etc.

So who like pomegranates. Not talking about the juice but the actual fruit.

Best diet food ever.  It takes more calories to get to the #*!$ edible part than you gain by eating the fruit!

But they're tasty.

I have one in the backyard.  When the leaves fell, I will cut a few branches and propagate.  It's very easy to plant and very sweet if they won't crack open before their time.

My grandparents had a pomegranate tree in their yard when I was a kid.  We used to eat those all the time.  My granddad also gave me some pomegranate wine he made when I was older.  It was so good.

They are great but can be a pain to get the seeds out.

Alton had a tip on Good Eats:
 Fill a bowl with water
Hold Pom underwater and open it up
 Separate seeds while underwater

This will help ease the mess.

Instead of slicing the ends off, I cut into them at an angle with a paring knife and make a dent.  The fruit is thick with pith at the end and you want to get rid of them, plus this makes pulling the fruit open easier.
