ok.. say i have a 1 gallon jug of 27% hydrogen peroxide, and id like to dilute it down to 3% with distilled water

anyone have ANY idea on how to go about doing it

Set it up like a comparison.

1 gallon = 27/100
x gallons = 3/100

I'm not doing your homework for you.

is that like the cross multiply and then divide?

k..with converting the fractions over to decimals,  cross multiplying then dividing and then solving for X ..  i came up with 9.001 gallons

Divide or multiply by 9

Did you consult wiki?

ETA: and this is a chemistry question.

you might want to start with alot less than a gallon depending on what your using it for.

If I had a gallon of 27% H2O2, I surely would be doing things other than diluting it.

For one, you could <COC violation> Knock it off ~CTD

ETA: sorry. my bad.

Assuming you don't have a graduated cylinder and a calculator:

Multiply: Add 8 gallons of water = 9 gal at 3%
Divide: Measure out 1.78 cups (1/9th gal) into a gallon jug and then fill with water up to a gallon = 1 gal at 3%

Right?

You have 27% Hydrogen Peroxide and you want to dilute it?

Are you nuts?

Go find yourself a sink full of dirty dishes and just pour some on there. Report back later. Hell, I could have a lot of fun with that stuff...

lol... you can get it at your local pool supply store..   $16 for a gallon of 27%  instead of the couple 3, 4 dollars they charge your for the smaller 3% brown bottles,,

im making home made scent eliminator  and its WAY cheaper to buy it at the pool store!

i ended taking about 2 cups of the 27% and dumping that into a gallon of distilled water..  that should give me around 3 to 4 % and even that gets diluted down into more distilled water, arm and hammer baking soda, and some dirt, and some scent free hunter soap!

made 2 gallons of the stuff earlier and it costs me about 2 to 3 dollars a gallon im thinking  (then again my math sux  lol )

also makes good for tracking blood..  keep the 27% stuff in a small spray bottle and spray it on the ground if you cant find any blood and if there is  spec of it .. it will foam like CRAZY!!!

Neat. I may have to try that.

Add a few drops of dish detergent.  That stuff is AWESOME for getting the skunk smell off a dog.
