I've never played COD. MOH yes, Delta Force yes, Rainbow Six yes, but never COD.

While the Rainbow Six games were amazing for their time, I found them to be way too realistic and thus not as much fun. I prefer the shoot-em-up typer games such as DF and MOH, where there is just enough realism to make it a little nail-biting, but not so much as to make it a chore rather than a fun game. After all, if I wanted to do this shit for real, I'd figure a way to get my fat ass into the Special Ops community for real.

My question is, is the COD series similar to MOH and DF? The new COD 4 looks simply stunning, and it's been a while since I've enjoyed a good game (I still pull out DF: BHD every now and again, and I miss DF 2 terribly).

Thanks.

COD 4 was amazing, MW2 will be leaps and bounds better.  It is THE console shooter to have.  No questions asked.

Yep.  Modern Warfare has just enough realism to hook you, not enough to ruin gameplay.

If money's not too tight now, I'd get COD4 for now to get ready for MW2.

About the only grief I have with COD4 is that if you don't play it on hardcore, the weapon realism takes a pretty significant drop.  If someone is using juggernaut, you can pretty much forget about using a bolt action sniper rifle against them, unless they are completely inept.  I found it was pretty hard to get headshot kills with the M14 and G3 also.   But, when you play hardcore, all that nonsense goes away.   Once you get decent at the regular mode, go straight to hardcore.  It will greatly increase your enjoyment of the game.

CoD4 is most excellent. When MW2 comes out, I plan at being at Best Buy around midnight to pick up the prestige edition and then harass my girlfriend with the "nightvision" goggles that come with it.

I loved COD MW. I sold R6: Vegas2.

I can't wait for MW2.

COD4 had excellent visuals but it was very linear in gameplay.

I personally enjoyed the COD series...especially the WWII game. I don't play games except maybe 15-20 minutes here or there when I have no work to do, family to take care of, dogs to feed, cars to maintain, papers to write, insanely boring books to read, or guns to clean.

As such I tend to play for 15-20 minutes every now and then, so I like things simple. The whole rank system in the newer version of COD sucks, in my opinion. I don't want to be limited to gimp weapons in a multiplayer. I also found that the weapon models sucked, as it seemed like the guys with the 5.7 guns could kill you in one shot...but you could empty 1/4 of a belt from an M249 into them and they're still up and running. Once I managed to get my hands on the RPD things got more fun, as that's probably the best general purpose weapon in the game. It's very accurate and powerful enough to put bad guys down quickly.

I wish they would return more to the older style where you didn't have all of this rank crap to deal with. I'd rather hop into a map, pick my weapon and team, and then get right to the killing. I don't want to have to think about achievements or any of that other gay shit.

Uh..... Stupid question...

When you say "Console Shooter", do you meant N64, XBox360, etc., or is it something IN the game?

I've only got my Mac. I gave my old XBOX to my nephews-in-law.

Sadly, yes.   Good storyline though.

YUP. I had all the Rainbow Six games and even still play Raven Shield online. My first COD game was COD World at War (Cost me $10) just a few weeks back. I think I prefer the realistic shooting, picking your own weapons, etc. of RS over COD.

In all fairness, I think the leveling up, prestiging system adds a lot of life to the game.  After awhile just "pwning noobs" gets old.  If I have to go back to square 1 with just an M16 with iron sights while everyone else is using M14's with ACOGs or G36c's with red dots, it makes things a little more interesting.  Besides, you level up fairly quickly in COD4, especially if you play a lot of Headquarters.

I play Hardcore often, it's nice if only for the lack of random grenades.

You're not kidding.  I'd be interested to try Hardcore Headquarters on Shipment sometime.  I'll bet its actually playable.
