Are you going to get one? Did you get one and have an adverse reaction?

ETA:
Wife got the regular flu shot yesterday.  8-hours later she developed a severe headache, chills, sweating and nausia. She Always seems to have a minor reaction to the shot for a couple days after.

I got the regular flu shot today.  Never had any problems with them.  I have no plans on getting the H1N1 shot.

No flu shot for me. I don't care if it is Swine Flu or just the regular flu. No shots.

Never have had a flu shot due to my grandmother almost dying from one several years ago.  It gave her the flu and no amount of medical "experts" can tell me otherwise, she was perfectly healthy when she received the shot and in 4 days after she was in the hospital.

This is a vaccine that has been researched for years, there's absolutely no way in hell I'd take the H1N1 that got thrown together in a panic and is being pushed by the Obama Administration.

I've seen people get sick from flu shots and I've seen people / kids die from getting the flu. You can look at all the statistics for both sides of the argument but when it comes down to it, all those numbers mean nothing if it's your kid or family member that becomes affected. I try my best not to tell people to get it or not. It's their decision and not mine. I will not flip the coin for them.

Nope. People I work with are dropping like fly's from it though.

I don't understand why so many people are afraid to get a Flu shot, is their tinfoil too tight?

Yes, I got one......FTW

I believe in many cases it isn't a thought out response.  No is simply the answer people give when they don't go to the doctor unless they are near death.  Lots of people in the low risk age group rarely get sick and see no reason to get a shot.

I don't judge them.  I never got them until a few years back.  Now, every time I get a flu or chest infection I end up with bronchitis or pneumonia.  I currently have bronchitis - day 13.  So the small issue of getting a flu shot is mute in comparison.

I just got the regular (seasonal) flu shot a couple of hours ago.  No dystonia, no reaction, no paralysis, no dying (so far)––as usual.

I believe I had the "swine flu" a few weeks ago (based upon the symptoms, not tested), so I'm not going to bother with that one.

When is the last time you ran into someone with smallpox?

What conclusion can we draw from your answer?

Havent had one yet and will not start now.
Everyone I know who has had the flu shot got sick shortly after.

FWIW i would have got one but worked all night before they were giving the shots and it was sleep a few hours before going back to work Vs get the shot and be up for 36 hours straight. i figured sleep deplivation was a bigger risk than influenza at that point.

I might find a pharmacy thats giving them and pay out of pocket.

As just above, some (most?) who won't get a flu shot WILL get a tetanus shot.  I can't comprehend that kind of "logic."

Vaccines should either be deemed "safe/effective/worthwhile" or "unacceptable" (for whatever reason the person chooses to believe)––but to trust one and reject all others is . . .

I'm hoping the guy I quoted and queried will return and explain.  I'm just curious, but I'm REALLY curious as to his reasoning.

I got mine this last Satuday actually. I have to though. My wife never does, and she now has the flu. I think she caught it from my disease ridden bodily fluids.

Sometimes after a flu shot a person may experience mild flu like symptoms, that's the body's defense response to what it thinks is the flu virus, this is not a bad thing, it allows your immune system to develop it's defenses against the active virus when it makes the rounds.

Another thing to keep in mind, what have you done to improve your immune system?

Just about everyone on this sight is an advocate of self defense, your attacker could be anything, including a virus.

That's becauseFluMist is a weakened live virus vaccine. It is made from a live virus that has been designed not to cause the flu but you may get some mild symptoms as a result.

Just because you get a flu vaccine does not mean you will not get the flu.  The vaccine is designed based upon what they think will be the most common strain to hit during the next flu season.

ETA: I've had a flu shot evey year for the past 9yrs and no flu.

I WISH I could find the flu shot.  Or the H1N1 vaccine.

Neither are in abundant supply here.

My wife is getting the H1N1 shot in the morning.
I can't get one because I'm not in the same risk group.
(pregnant)

Plus, she teaches.  Several of her students are absent.
Some are coming back after being gone a week with flu symptoms.

If my wife gets H1N1, she has a significant chance of dying from it.
Too much of a chance to suit me, based on current statistics.

One of my technicians is out with H1N1.  He got it from his wife.

At least that is what we assume.

Hospitals and doctors are not seeing patients with flu symptoms.
Therefore, very few sick people are getting diagnosed.

It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against influenza virus infection. In the meantime, you are still at risk for getting the flu.

Sigh, the H1N1 is manufactered in the exact same way as what we now call the regular flu shot.  The H1N1 is the same shot as the one we always got that has been cultivated for a different strain.  Every year the regular flu shot is made up of two Influenza A strains and a Influenza B strain, so each shot contains dead viruses of three different strains.  If the swine flu, or H1N1flu, had impacted us a few months before it did, it would have been part of the regular shot.  It would have been one of the influenza A strains.

tetanus is good for years
smallpox vaccine is good for life
MMR is good for a long time maybe life I'm not positive

flu is yearly, that's the difference

while not afraid of needles I don't particularly like them and have better thing to do that sit in line for a shot that might be good for a year

plus this is the first time I think I might have had the flu, and if it was it was a very mild case
