My brother was browsing some NFL rumor sites and a pop up came up that he needed to update

my anti-virus software. So the dumbass clicks on it and downloads Alpha Antivirus software, which is

really a virus. Everytime a click on any website I get a pop up saying im under attack. My problem is when I

try to remove program it wants an activation code. How do I force it to remove this software.

Any help please, im about to pull my hair out!

Do not let your brother use your computer.  Evar.

It's spyware, not technically a virus.

Any good free anti-spyware program should work fine.

I use Ad-Aware.

Then give your brother a wedgie and a swirlie.

My friend had this pop up on his.  Can you get to ie, tools, manage add ons, and uncheck the box? This is what shut it down long enough for me to remove it.

Well this helped me long enough to ask a few more questions.

This is the screen I get when I go to any web page.

Any help on software to remove it would be helpful.

Would Ad-Aware work? I currently run AVG

Get out your Windows disk and wipe the hard drive, then reinstall Windows.  That is MUCH faster than trying to pull that shit out by the roots.  It has probably already installed other shit that will lie in wait for a week or two, then will pop up again without you even visiting a web page to get it.

Plus, your computer will probably run faster after it's wiped anyway.

I would advise against allowing your relatives (or anybody else!) from using your computer.  Computers are like sex toys, they are not safely shared.  At the very least, let someone else use it on a locked down account with no privileges.

Run Ad-aware or spybot ASAP

The worst people to let touch your computer are teenagers.

Reformat/reinstall.  Malwarebytes run in safe mode might work, but it might not.

malwarebytes is great software for killing this. you may need to download it to a flash drive on another computer and then install it on yours. and keep your brother off your computer.

Best computer advice I ever got was to use my laptop daily on a guest account with few privileges.  That way, no virus or anything can be installed.  If I need to install something, I either log in as an administrator or provide the administrator password when prompted by the installer.
