American helicopter carrying 4-person crew, 20 British soldiers and 30 Afghans crashed today near Kandahar during an emergency landing after ostrzelaniu by the rebels. No one was injured. The Americans tried to evacuate his helicopter with the affected area with the help of another Chinook. However, this does not give advice to bear the machinery. Then called on to help the Russians.
Mi-26T belongs to Wiertikal-T moved to secure the damaged Chinook area, about 110 km from the place of the fall. Transportation escorted American attack helicopters. The crew and passengers of CH-47 helicopters were evacuated others.
Maximum Takeoff Weight Mi-26T is 56 tons. The helicopter can carry loads weighing over 20 tons (the passenger version is located 80-120 passengers). Mass of empty CH-47 is more than 10 tons and has a capacity not exceeding 12 tonnes. Maximum Takeoff Weight Chinook is 22 tons.

Good grief.  The Mi-26 is a monster.  Makes the Chinook look down right sporty.

I was going to say, maybe it's an optical illusion or something but that Chinook looks TINY compared to that monster.

Though, the russians did always have a case of small penis syndrome, in that everything they had needed to be bigger than what we had.

Probably true.....still doesn't hurt for us to take advantage of their huge monetary investment in size oneupsmanship.

I believe that helicopter is the Russian equivalent to the C-130.

A helicopter was better suited to the terrain, and lack of airfields, in the vast expanses of Russia.

But nothing that will out lift the Mi-26.

The only larger helo we fly is the CH-53e, and it's outclassed by 4-5 other Russian helos.

We view helicopters to be the multi-facided machines.  Our heavy lift helicopters fill multiple roles.  Not just one

The Mi-26 is good at only doing one thing,  Lifting a lot of wieght and moving it a set distance.

Take the CH-53, it performed 10 differant jobs in three differant services, at least.  Same with the CH-47, it will at some point in it's long career do the same, if CSAR-X is resurrected it will do more.

Not so with the Mi-26, it's just not a versatile.

I have photos of me next to one of those in Afghanistan. I'll see if I can find them. For reference, The wheel on the MI 26 is as tall as me.

Roberts Ridge.......................

That was early in the war.  I have more pictures of that particular incident.   Its amazing how fast they hooked onto that MH-47E and got it out of there.

What?

Just because you do not give advice to bear the machinery, doesn't mean others don't.
