Hi all,
I need a new pair of boots and am looking for suggestions. Need something that is comfortable to walk in over long distances outdoors, waterproof, and good for both cold & hot weather (if possible). Basically good for hiking/hunting. I had a pair of Wolverines but lost them. They were good but not designed for walking long distances, hurt my feet after a while. I know there's a whole universe of boots, brands, styles, etc., could use some advice from any of the boot-gurus in here. Thanks, Jimmy |

I hike and pack much...worn two pair of Merrels the past five years. Just got a pair of Asolo FSN95 boots and they are the shazit. Light and comfortable. Great for long fast hikes, or just causal ones. The boots fit well and are well made.
...removed link...those were womens for $110...I paid about $150...shop around. Good luck |

I have a pair of Belleville's. Most comfortable boots I've owned. They are water-proof. a-bare BTW: how the fuck do you lose a pair of boots? How do you keep track of things such as car keys and other small items? You ask a very good question. The honest answer is I have no idea how I lost the boots! I never lost a pair of shoes or boots before in my life. Actually it may be that liberal doses of libation may have played a role in this... |

I scored some danner striker 8"...I am happy with them...side zip..but I need them for work. I am on my feet 8-10 hours per shift..I am outdoors, rain, snow..etc..when I was at the range this week, they held up well in the rain and the mud. This but I dont like the zippers. I have gone hunting in mine for 3 years and never had a problem. Took them to the academy and pretty much lived in them for 3 months now I am still using them for hunting this year. |

Vasque Sundowners I've had 3 pairs last me 20 years. Vasque quality has gone to shit recently. I grew up wearing them. They were awesome. WERE. I recently had to replace mine, and went back to the vasque store. They felt OK, albeit cheaper, in the store. Took them home and walked around the house for an hour or so, and took them back. They sucked. I could feel the rand in the shoe through the foot bed. No arch support, and the construction didn't look very solid. I'm now happily wearing a pair of La Sportiva's. I've also had excellent luck with Asolo's as well. |

Big fan of Danner boots here. I dropped over $400.00 for two pairs (hot-weather and temperate) and I don't regret it at all. Very comfortable, with plenty of room in the toe for feet to swell during long humps and still stay comfortable. Plenty of ankle support, without the "farmer look" of boots made with too high a top. The USMC was impressed enough with them to drop Bates (worst fucking "issue" boot ever made), and Belleville's and make Danner the issue boot in the very near future (at a substantial savings over what they retail for now).
Highly recommended. |
