Ok, so I'm crazy and I shoot my Krag rifle more than anything else I own. This includes doing tactical drills at 25 and 50 yds with reduced loads and distance shooting with loads exceeding common 308 ballistics (yes, and safe pressures). The 30in barrel and almost 49in overall length is no problem, as I have really really long arms. We're talking chimp here.
I've got this crazy idea of refurbishing a Krag carbine with a new barrel (CMP has said they have an order and will get some eventually), fittting/bedding new wood, installing a pistol scope (there are mounts available that install in place of the old rear sight) and 03A3 rear sight assembly on the rear of the bolt body somewhere. Oh, and completely refinishing the whole thing by hand with rust bluing. If I can find stripper clips then I'd be inclined to make this rifle, fed with some very tailored handloads, kind of my go to rifle. I mean, the AR is still a fine carbine, but a rifle should be in at least .30 caliber.
This said, I was browsing the web looking for stripper clips, and found somebody's avatar on another forum showing a guy feeding his krag from a stripper clip. An investigation yielded this site; http://telecom.hartford.edu/images/KCsales.htm Evidently somebody used to make these, and now doesn't, and now doesn't sell them. I'm not looking to make a profit or sell these, I just want some. Does anyone have the skills to make up some of these, for a fee? Anyone else seen any like this? |

I give you credit for using a Krag for your "go to gun", but seriously you need to chop that barrel down to a manageable length. I do like the stripper clips, but wasn't the whole idea of the Krag feeding arrangement to not have to use a clip? I have a few Krags myself and I would be interested in getting a few of those clips as well if someone skilled in sheet metal manufacturing were to begin making these again.
Indy PS - drive everyone nuts and put an EOTech on a picitinny rail. |

You might want to try a dedicated Krag subh forum.

I currently own the very stripper clip that is in the short video that shows how the clip works. It has a teak wood cap that is secured with brass pins. I also have one made of copper whose top is soldered on and curved or domed like the ilustrated clip in the other photo on this thread. The designer made up dozens of models and prototypes that he sold off. They were made of copper, brass and aluminum. They really work and are fantastic! The brass one that I own was the very best that he had he told me. I bought clips number 11 & 15 on the list that is on the sight mentioned in the first post. Wish I still had my Krag! Fred G.
