| Could be related to factory tire ratings. If he gets a power programmer he could tell the computer he's running Z-rated tires and it will essentially void the governor. At least, this is the case for my truck which is limited to 97mph, a big change from my 71 Chevelle wiht no governor and just purrs at 110+ at around 3300-3500 rpm or so. |

OST for home.
Most vehicles are limited because their tires aren't rated for their top speed. If a car manufacturer has tires rated for 115 mph and limited the top speed to 105 there's no liability there. OTOH if they don't limit the top speed and allow people to exceed the speed the (cheap ass) factory tires are rated for and the tires fail at 120+ mph and cause an accident, you can bet that some lawyer would be advertising for a class action lawsuit. Top speed limiting IMO is limiting liability. |
