My brother just got out of basic and is now in rotc in college. I'd like to get him something memorable. Here's where I am so far, I bought him a decent bottle of whiskey( Woodford Reserve) and am going to have the bottle laser etched. It's kind of a wide flat bottle, so I thought I would put US ARMY on the front and on the back I wanted to put,"From a proud brother to a brave soldier". What do you guys think?
When I was in the service I would have loved to have gotten something like this. I guarantee I would still have it. It might not be full, but I would have the bottle. I was thinking of telling him that we would break it open if and when he got deployed. Just looking for opinions. Any other great ideas would be appreciated. |

I kinda like the flask idea. He's only 21, so he's no whiskey expert. I'm sure if it's free booze it's his favorite brand. ARMY flask |
| I've been given a flask and I never use it because bars don't let you bring your own and in most social situations if you bust out a flask people think you're a alcoholic. Knife is the way to go. I have over a dozen knives but you know what I say whenever someone gives me a new knife? "Awesome!" |

In before someone points out that bourbon is not just whiskey.
Don't engrave something disposable. It's like mongramed toilet paper. The bottle's only going to last a few weeks anyhow, so what's the point? I know kids tend to glorify alcohol, but there's really nothing super special in or on that bottle that makes it worth engraving. Flask, glasses, decanter, anything durable would be a better choice. But you know what gift I appreciate most from my brother? Relax, have a few drinks, play some video games and act like kids again. You don't need to engrave the bottle for it to be a nice gift. |
