I have a Panasonic toughbook cf-51, out of nowhere, the DVD/cd-rw thought it was a good idea to take a dump (at least that's what I thought) .. if you put a disk in, it will start, but then nothing happens. so first things first, it is not listed under "my computer" as a drive. so I checked the hardware manager, .. it list the drive, along with a big yellow flag. the error code is - 41 (driver installed but the hardware cannot be located) the driver is installed, and windows says it is the most suitable driver. ... so I disabled it/ enabled the drive, restart .... and everything is the same.
I called Panasonic, we no longer have tech support for this machine .. ok, the guy is somewhat helpful, and says it sounds like the drive crapped out, he gave me a # for replacement parts, so I had the drive shipped to the hotel I'm at, took out the old one, replaced it with the new one, and ... same error,no drive listed, tried again to uninstall driver, reinstall driver,disable/enable the hardware, and yet again ....nothing I use this drive to make an electronic copy of our reports which is then supplied to the customer along with the hard copy signed paperwork, so I kind of need it to work ...any help would be...well...helpful and greatly appreciated |

thanks guys, I've started to do HD dump to the backup drive ... so far it's been a good rugged laptop, and has rarely disappointed me. as far as the electronic copy reports, staples had 512Mb flash drives for $4 each on sale ... so I'm covered for a little while |

For anything Toughbook related go to notebookreviews.com and head to the panasonic section. Those guys are pros and can build and repair any system. Any time you do a search on google for toughbooks that site always comes up.
