[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Miami Vice (Page 1 of 2)

| I'm 28, so I was a little young when it was on the air, but I've been going back and watching shows I grew up with, or didn't get to see because of my age. This was a great show. |
|
like all shows...the later seasons were not as good...at times things were forced to mirror other popular shows.....there were a handful of episodes that has some younger undercover officers to try to bring in the younger crowd....
However there were a lot of great guest stars over the years. |
|
I watched it when it was on. IIRC I enjoyed it. I'm thinking of getting the DVDs and giving it another go, but I might get a set of '50s westerns first (Yancy Derringer, Paladin, etc).
It can't be as bad as what's on today, and if it is I can load the DVDs up in my trap and shoot super battues.
If it's great I'll get the new Vltor Bren Ten when it comes out or an Armani jacket. Or both.
I thought the alligator living in Crockett's boat was some asshattery. |

I'm old so I remember the 'Vice well and it was a great show... I bought the entire series on DVD and am going to start watching it again as soon as I finish the X-Files. With the exception of a few shows like the 'Vice, Firefly, the X-Files, Star Trek, Star Trek TNG, and Babylon 5 TV has basically sucked ass... |
|
Still one of the best shows ever on TV. The production values are astounding even by todays standards. And the music choreography is still better than current music "videos". Unfortunately, Mann followed that same formula later with the movie "Last of the Mohicans",a.k.a. "Mohican Vice". |

What about the Bren Ten Still waiting for one after 25 years. Tried to buy one when they first came out but D&D screwed up so badly it wasn't possible. Hopefully VLTOR will release the new one soon. And yeah obviously I have a soft spot for MV. (Originally from Miami) |

I just haven't been able to get into TV nowadays. I've been coming home lately, and instead of turning on the tube, I'm turning on the comp and watching an older sitcom, or a drama. |

Remember the album Don Johnson put out entitled "heartbeat" that was some funny shit, good thing the show was good cause the music career was laughable Dweezil Zappa played guitar on the Heartback song. I love Dweezil. If you ever get a chance check out the Shampoohorn album he did with his brother Ahmet. |

Quoted: I want to say Magnum PI was better than Miami Vice. And I liked Miami Vice. Rick I need a favor. I used to watch that when my dad wasn't looking, and I watched reruns later on. That was good show, too and I blame it for my love of the Ferrari GTS. I may have to watch that after I'm done with Vice |

TV show was awesome, so was its soundtrack. The movie sucked. Like most fans of the Vice TV show, I didn't like the movie at first either. I then bought the DVD and watch it often; and the more I watch it the more I like it. I also turned on the subtitles and can understand what they are saying now. Mann wrote the script/dialogue with A LOT of jargon and its related to Marine - nese or military-speak. "..Skill sets", "OPSEC" , "AWACS...eye in the sky.." *Gong Li needed to go. Totally miscast her role. *Mann wanted the movie version of Vice to be updated and he couldn't regurgitate the show from the 80's. A lot of the Vice magic was because you are in 1984 and for the first time ever, you are seeing songs interlaced with visuals and movie quality scenes on TV. *The gun handling on the TV show was comedic compared to today's tactics, techniques, and procedures. The gun handling in the movie was far better and I believe it was the same former SAS trainer used in collateral. *Being more realistic, pistols were used far less in contrast to rifles or shotguns; good and bad guys both. Final shootout used ZERO pistols. *Tubbs in the TV show had a sawed-off double barrel shotgun. Tubbs in the movie had an HK79 40mm grenade launcher along with a Benelli M4! *Gotta love Crocket with the Sig 552. *The cinematography in the movie was awesome; very surreal at times, colorful, sometimes highly contrasting. Same digital camera used in collateral. *Music was good. I liked the Linkin Park mix and thought it fit well. *My only wish was that they would have used "In the Air tonight" by Phil Collins and in the same context as the orginal. |
|
The sound track for the movie is actually pretty damn good... it is one of my go to albums for long plane trips.
The old weekly episodes were awesome. Crockett got to kill someone once a week. I have said this before, the movie was true to the series - Crockett was the emotional cripple who fell for every skirt who came his way and Tubbs was the real brains behind the duo. |

TV show was awesome, so was its soundtrack. The movie sucked. This A lot of the purists had a hard time enjoying the movie in its modern context vs the TV show of the 80's. They could not have rehired Johnson and Thomas, put them in the clothes from the 80's and replay Jan Hammer and Phil Collins. What's the point? Even as a fan of the show; I have to admit that as far as crime fight'n, gun handling, and realism the show had some weaknesses that were glossed over via cool music, bad guys in hip clothes or mindless action. The movie was more true to life of real law enforcement and intelligence gathering just like "Heat". |
|
The cool thing about the series is that is was one of the first TV shows to incorporate current hit songs into a show. The movie was decent in it's own right and you just kind of had to separate the two. The thing Ilked most about it was that Bren Ten. I still want one today. |
