How popular is eBay among the Hive?
Inquiring minds want to know. You may morph this into eBay horror/success stories if you wish. |

I used to use e-Bay quite often, in support of my other collecting interests.
I never had a bad experience in over 60 transactions on that website. However, anyone who plans on using e-Bay should read the "Safe Harbor" community board horror stories from top to bottom - you'll get quite an education, believe me. As a buyer, I always viewed e-Bay as similar to gambling in a casino: never bet more than you can afford to lose if the person on the other end turns out to be a crook. |

Ebay was good 10 years ago, when you could find an honest deal. Now everyone is a crook, cheat, or a crybaby. EE or craigslist these days for me Antigun also +1 to all I have almost 800 feedback on Ebay, spent a lot of money and made some money from it years ago. Last thing I bought was season 4 of miami vice a few weeks ago and that was the first time that I've used Ebay in years. |

I was planning to sell a bunch of miscellaneous 'stuff', so I'm interested in knowing if e-bay is a safe bet. How do you get the money? when do you send your item to the buyer? does it cost to use the site? Thanks for the heads-up. How do you get the money? Paypal (which e-Bay owns), or else through regular mail - whatever you specify as the seller. When do you send your item to the buyer? AFTER you have received payment (and waited for the check to clear if you are taking a check). Does it cost to use the site? The seller pays a listing/final valuation fee (used be around 2% or so, they've probably jacked it up since those days). Just be careful to list your payment terms very carefully and specifically. |

you can find some good stuff on ebay but you can also find a lot of junk. take your time and do your research. make sure you look at how much their shipping is because some people sell the item for cheap and then jack up the shipping to help compensate. True. It's also amazing how some folks will actually pay more than retail for some items when it's all said and done. Thrill of the auction I guess... |

I love ebay. I get tons of USGI surplus MOLLE gear and firearms parts from Ebay.
My latest snag was a Tasco 3-9x40mm scope for $25 shipped. $10+ cheaper than wal-mart. I always check ebay for the part I need first because I can usually find it cheaper and with free shipping. |

Same deal with gunbroker. Most sell their weapons over MSRP but people are buying them. The Xboxes are a perfect example with ebay. You couldn't find them in stores when it first came out and people who wanted the new toy and wanted to be the first to get it paid hundreds more than what it was selling just so they could get it a few months before their friends. |
| I've been on eBay for just over 10 years now, and honestly it's been a blessing. I have quite a few other hobbies (mostly vintage Hot Wheels cars) and it helps me find exactly what I'm looking, since it's impossible to find most of this stuff locally anymore. I've sold quite a bit of junk too... yah yah the fees are a little higher than they used to be but the convenience is well worth it. |

It fucking pisses me off. Non-buy it now auctions are pointless to fuck with, because some asshole always has a bid sniper program set up to zap the auction at the very last second. Unless something is buy-it-now, I refuse to even look at it. The $30 shipping charges are annoying, too - $15 pair of BDU pants with $30 shipping? Wtf? I've gotten a couple good deals on there - $15 for a Goretex woodland camo bag bivy, $20 for four really nice sets of silk/merino wool hiking socks - but aside from some random casual browsing, I hardly use it any more. I just pick up most of my books from Amazon's used section. |

I just sold 6 things (not gun related) got a total of $150 bucks !!! But some asshole hasnt paid me for something they won on thursday (what do i do)
But i love shopping on there for new stuff because you can get 7-15% off of any buy it now with bing cashback. There are many stores that sell on ebay. I got a MI two piece rail for $90 shipped BRAND NEW I got a Smiwth and Wesson tactical flashlight for $20 |

I buy a lot of stuff on eBay still.
It has stuff that nobody else has. Surplus gear from around the globe. I found a good deal on a new Pro-Comp Kit, the seller is a big store, and they have awesome feedback. I am going to save about $600 on the kit compared to everyone else online. The key to buying on eBay is checking a sellers feedback and using it appropriately during transactions. Otherwise you are just part of the problem. I don't buy to much gun stuff on eBay, may be gear but if I want online guns, there are better and more apppropriate places to go. |
has anyone tried one of these? I've never ordered anything from china before

I've had good luck on eBay, but I have a few simple rules. A US seller must have at least 99% feedback on a hard to find item, if the item is common they must have 99.5% or higher. Two things can change this, newbies and sellers I've used before. Newbies must have 100% and at least 20 sells under their belt. Seller's I've bought from in the past can dip as low as 98.7%/99.2%. I've been burnt by sellers with 98% feedback and by a couple of newbies. Foreign sellers including Canada I go with a 99.4%/99.7%, no newbies, must have 100+ sells. I was burnt big time on shipping by a newbie from GB, $40.00 shipping for a small package of books, bought nearly the same items from a more experienced seller in GB, his package was heavier and I paid like $7.50. Canadians who ship from the US I consider US sellers. I tend to be a repeat customer so treat me good, I'll buy from you again. Treat me bad and I wont. I've given a few neutrals and a couple of negatives. I've had my best luck with sellers from California and my worst from Florida. YMMV I remember years ago one seller and I exchanging one liners for nearly a week. Somehow we just clicked. Then of course there's sellers that you have to send POLITE reminders for nearly two weeks, then you get the lame "sick family, vacation, out of town on business" type stories. There seems to be two general types of eBayer, the first type is just trying to clean up there house and make a few dollars, the second type is doing this as a business. The first type generally has the best deals price wise, but are harder and harder to find. |
| I do pretty good on there. I've been a member since 2001, buying and selling, and been selling firearms related t-shirts for maybe 3 months. Initially I just sold whatever stuff I had that I didn't need anymore, the shirts have been the first thing that I've been selling on a continuing basis. They're cheap enough that I haven't had any issues with ripoffs or scammers. High dollar and/or tech stuff I think would be more risky. I sell maybe 5-20 shirts a week, depending. I create the designs, print the shirts, and handle shipping. You just have to find your niche market and you can do pretty well. |

Made many, many, great transactions on eBay. There was one that I had to turn the PayPal Dispute attack dogs on –– but got my money back. Many fine deals. My latest was a Grip-Pod with the NSN and the metal in the legs for a total of $39.50. The SAME unit elsewhere online and at the gun stores here was well over $125.00+tax!!! If you use eBay, make sure and use PayPal for ALL transactions. PayPal ONLY... you will be covered. |
