They suck. They take otherwise outstanding individuals and turn them into herd animals.

Former AFL-CIO local #542 member - and I voted against. Unions have outlived their usefulness & are sucking the life out of US industy.

I hate unions almost as much as I hate Obama.  It's kind of like the devil and the superdevil.  It's not really fair to say you like one less because it implies you like one more.

I have never belonged to one, and don't expect to.  I have watched them demand more and more and more, but they are an invaluable part of the collective bargaining process.

Unions are blamed for destroying business in this country.  Greed is certainly bad.  Every contract a Union got was signed by a company executive, and HE was responsible for protecting the company's interest.

Fixed it for you.

Unions are affirmative action at it's worst.

When unions started USA was manufacture heaven.
Now we just serve each other so unions are going down.

Labor type or Soviet type?

I'm against both.

I am 100% against government backed unions.

If other people want to unionize, that's fine, and if employers want to fire people for unionizing, that's okay too.

Just out of curiosity, what exactly are you proud of? Are you proud of belonging to a legal extortion racket? Are you proud that because of your shortcomings, you have to get someone else to negotiate your wages and benefits?  Are you proud to assist in the destruction of American Industry? Did your union save the rain forests? What?

Oh yea...UNIONS CAN SUCK MY BALLS.

Even way back when, they were merely a bully solution to bully government corruption that (either passively or actively) enforced illegal business practices.

If, the government corruption had been corrected there would have been no need.

This is no different than what we have today. Government creates a problem, then grows to offer solutions to the problem, rather than simply correcting what was wrong.

30 years as a Salaried employee (Engineer) at GM/Delco/Delphi has tainted my opinion of Unions.

I'm "Agasint" the Hourly mentality that Unions breed.

I intentionally used the words Salaried and Hourly because I believe 50% of GD doesn't know what they mean.

I'm in a union job now and I've had two other jobs that were also union. In none of these jobs were any of the employees allowed to just stand around smoking or hanging out. You guys see one of those shows that 20/20 does does on UAW workers hanging out at bars during work hours and think every union worker is like that.

What 'Union' do you work for ?

Are you an elected union official, Pres, secretary, that works for the local ?

Or do you work for a company that is unionized ?

Who issues you your paycheck, the union or the company ?

It's one thing to be proud of the work you do, it's another to be proud to be a "union worker". What is it about being a union worker that differs from being a regular worker, that you have to be proud of?

I architect the systems that control a lot of those signals and switches

We're now designing the systems to stop those trains when your union brethren onboard are too busy to do it. Let's see how that works out for them in the long run

I've spent the last 22 years around the RR union guys and they're no better than the other unions. There are some really good men out there taking up the slack and covering for deadbeats - they'd be even better w/o the deadbeats and union limitations, but alas they're all brainwashed by the union (or scared to rock the boat) and will protect those deadbeats and toe the union line.
