I need to keep it under $350-400. I am checking craigslist, but it seems to be hit and miss. If I can't find a good deal I will have to buy new.
Craftsman has this combo for $300. I can buy online and pick it up at my local Sears and not pay any shipping. I am also looking at this unit by Kobalt. I have no experience w/ Kobalt. I looked them over at Lowes and they look good, but it is only rated for 200lbs, while the craftsman (lower unit in the combo) is rated for 600 lbs and is a smaller unit. Both are ball bearing. |
| If you could stretch it to the $500 to $600 range you open up alot more options. I have no direct experience with Kobalt boxes, but I believe their hand tools are made by either Snap-On or Mac. I can't remember which. The craftsman you listed looks like a solid standard duty model. It would be my choice of the two. When I was building machinery a few years ago the two most popular boxes were the Craftsmen ball bearing and Kennedys. I don't recall any other brands on the shop floor. Hope that helps somewhat. |

I have a Montazuma Welding (sp?) it basically looks like a right triangle all tools are on pegs ,when the lid is closed you could turn it upside down and all tools will stay in place.
Mine holds a complete set of 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2"drive SAE and metric up to 1 1/2" and metric to I think 32mil. Not much storage for other stuff , but I got mine on a rolling set of drawers for that stuff BTW jut the tool box part weighs over 600# |
