Knoppix 6.0.1 has the drivers for my large laptop.  On my Eee, it's just a question of clicking the right icons.  I don't know which programs to run, which command-line tools to use, what configuration files to set up, or which GUI tools are available on the Knoppix 6 distro, though.

Can anyone give me a rundown on it?

Eternal thanks from someone who is apparently too damn ancient and decrepit to get college pussy any more, much less figure out this newfangled wifi shit.  When I was a youngster, computers used WIRES to network, as God clearly intended.

I think you meant "iwconfig" for the wireless parameters and "ifconfig" for the IP parameters.  However, Knoppix likely has NetworkManager hiding in there somewhere to take care of wireless config for you.  Look in the control panel and make sure your adapter is being detected and initialized.

Hmm, ifconfig will set wifi in FreeBSD, thought it would in linux also.

iwconfig works as well.

BTW, it turns out that wifi works better when I flip the physical on/off switch to let it work.

So, that was why I couldn't get any connections on that laptop.  Works fine as long as I push the "on" button.

Yeah, those pesky power switches, and power cords.
