I'm in the market for a new computer.  How can I tell how much memory that my current computer came with.

If you know the manufacture's part number you can look it up on crucial.com to see what it left the factory with.  If you want to know what's in it now there are easier ways.

right click on "my computer" and click more info/about. I forget what the option's called in Windows. It should bring up a mini-summary of your comp's specs. It should include processor speed, memory, and OS

Did you add any?

Goto to control panel...system

Should list your RAM in there

And why worry about what you old computer has? what is more important is what your new computer will have.

click "start"

right click "my computer"

It should be listed at the bottom of the info that comes up.

you can also hold down the Windows key and hit the "pause/break" key to pop the information up.

Let's make this simpler.

Your new computer should have around 2 GB of RAM minimum. (assuming you'll be buying new).

It means your computer is about four or five years old.

As was said already, 2 GB (2048 MB) should be the minimum you get with a new machine.

i believe they have a memory scanner that should tell you everything you need to know.

448Mb is .448Gb (roughly half a gig.  a gig is 1024Mb  half a gig would be 512)

most computers now a days come with at least 2Gb of ram.  4gb would be better and 8 would be awesome.  with the price of ram now so low there is no reason not to buy as much as you can.
