I hope this link works... www.gunblast.com/SHOT_2002_2.htm ...towards bottom of page on left hand side. 1500...thats a lot fo cash. looks a bit cooler than i first thought, but still i wonder how the ergonomics of that block are. i'd appreciate anyone who handled it to share what their impressions were. how does it balance, point, whats the weight, how are the ergonomics..what exactly is the operating syatem like? we need the full scoop. sloth

I want two. Barrett better import enough of these, they are going to sell like wildfire.
Link Posted: 2/5/2002 7:46:17 AM EDT
I wonder how they shoot? I think they look great, I just wonder if there is a place to mount a bi-pod.
Link Posted: 2/5/2002 7:46:29 AM EDT
I think they are making the whole thing here. Anyone handle one?
Link Posted: 2/5/2002 7:47:20 AM EDT
So is Barrett going to be a distributor for the Tavor? I guess they worked some kind of deal with IMI? Seems kind of weird, but if it makes it available to Joe American, then whatever they want to do. The model shown in the picture looks pretty "civilianized" to me......... --ZERO
Link Posted: 2/5/2002 7:48:20 AM EDT
no offense, but have they taken a lean clean bullpup carbine and made it into a brick? i seem to recall it being sleeker a couple of years ago.
Link Posted: 2/5/2002 7:49:27 AM EDT
I'll take two of each!
Link Posted: 2/5/2002 8:34:26 AM EDT
from what i've read, IMI has an agreement with Barrett to produce these things domestically. this is good for IMI for three reasons: (1) can be sold to lowly civilains (2) can legally be adopted by the us military but probably the biggest reason (3) can use US aid dollars to buy this gun for themselves...one of the stipulations on our aid is that they have to buy americaqn made weapons (why you always see isralies with M4's). i still think that unless this gun is a REALLY just awsome, it won't be worth the high price tag. sloth
Link Posted: 2/5/2002 8:46:47 AM EDT
What, no muzzle break? And, how about addressing one of its biggest shortcomings - no case deflector. But, I digress. It's pretty nice. I just hope it doesn't have the butthole stock.
Link Posted: 2/5/2002 8:48:41 AM EDT
That is one UGLY assed piece of equipment. [V]
Link Posted: 2/5/2002 11:27:23 AM EDT
Will it accept AR mags?
Link Posted: 2/5/2002 11:45:17 AM EDT
While I am going to definately get two of these bad boys, take a look at the above picture and tell me how you plan on seeing anythign through that ACOG? the eye relief is like two inches, and you have maybe a two foot gap there...Looks more like it woudl be a dot sight type weapon.

I wonder if they will import the gun and add enough parts to make it 922R compliant or manufacture it all here. I can't wait to try one on for size!

If it's like the original, you can change the set up so it ejects on the other side. So lefties can use them too. The Tavor is a bullpup. As such, it's not suitable as a general issue military rifle...Or as a LE Entry weapon either, for that matter. The one I handled at the SHOT Show was an ungainly POS.

Replace the word Tavor with Aug. Do you get the same ideas?

Funny that you should mention this... I placed an OKO on top of it, and it made al the difference in the world. The only guys that didn'y really like it, were the ones unfamiliar with the "head's up display" type optics. Oh, and Castle Arms will definately be handling these for you guys, as soon as they hit the market! [;)]

yeah I was thinking the same thing Austrian Steyr AUG (seems to be revered by many) the French FAMAS (excellent reputation from what I read) & the British L85A1(SA80) (very BAD reputation for reliability)

Yeah, I'm gonna wait about six months on this one - see what some real users think and then maybe check the 'used' market.

We looked at these real close. I saw her several times in the Barret booth but didn't speak. I think she may work for or be related to them. When I spoke to both Mr Barretts & the new VP, they told me they are evaluating the demand before deciding to assemble in the US. The retail price will be more like $2000.00+ We decided the ACOG sight seemed to be too high so we slapped an OKO on it & that felt much better. Barrett left it on the rest of the show. When we tried a real AR mag it would NOT snap into place. The IMI rep told us it will take a slight modification & will then work. Barrett has all the paperwork approved for this project, I just hope enough dealers filled out the interest form instead of fondling it all the time. [red]If they do decide to produce these, there is a good chance they will donate one as a sponsor of AR15.COM's Black Rifle Convention[/red] So I bought a Model 95 [:D][:D]

After what we lined up at the show that isn't all you are going to want. By the time we get done with you, you are going to be a larger version of Waverunner!

Well, I DID want one... Big mistake if you ask me. 2K+ for a postban .223??? Hell, spend a little more and you could find a used USR in that price range. $1400 would be 'reasonable.'

Neat little gun, the iron sights are totally worthless... It's an $800 gun and that's pushing it... No way in hell it's worth $1500 and that's dealer.

Compared to the real Tavor (IMI TAR-21) it's an overpriced M-17. Why they didn't simply make a semi-auto TAR-21 with no uglies (birdcage, bayo-lug, etc) I'll never understand. I could have gone for that.
Link Posted: 2/7/2002 4:21:15 AM EDT
I still dont understand why didnt they just put out a model that looks exactly like the military model, sans birdcage...
