I would put up with shitty cable service over sat internet any day. But thats me. Here's why I dislike satellite...

High latency. Usually 500ms or more (1/2 second) between the time you click a link and the time you get a response. If you like playing first person shooter games this will make you miserable.

Relatively slow compared to cable. Their top tier packages are 1.5 Mbps. Cable is usually 3 Mbps or better in most areas.

Expensive. Their lowest tier package is more expensive than most cable internet providers. Plus setup and equipment price is high.

Download and upload quotas. They have a monthly maximum you can download and upload per month. This may or may not be a problem for you. Aside from the monthly rate some sat providers break it down into daily and hourly amounts. If you download so much in a given amount of time you are severely throttled or cut off for a period of time.

I would stick with cable or look to see if you can get DSL.

I don't know, but the those small dishes make EXCELLENT targets for an AK, once the consumer gives up the service.

Wildblue sucks big time. Not only was it slow, but it dosen't take much cloud cover to crap it out. Also, they make you liable for all of the equipment, and if anything goes bad, it's an $80 service fee. If cable is not an option, go with a wireless card.

Agreed. Satellite internet was a nice idea but was beat out by much better technology. Remember Sony MiniDisc..... me neither. Slow cable, DSL, tethered cellphone, anything but satellite.

Along the same lines (I know, not AK related, but I trust you guys over some other website ), I need to build an outdoor antena for my Xanadoo modum box. The service is not bad at all (when connected) but spends a lot of time "searching". I know I'm on the fringe of the service area, and feel like an outdoor antenna would help a bunch. Any ideas???  thx  ed
