Anyone have a favorite (cheap) hard-wired smoke detector?
I have a hard-wired smoke detector in my house that started going off at odd times. It is at least 10 years old, so I thought it was probably dirty and blew it out with compressed air. No go… it still gives false alarms intermittently. I would just buy a replacement, but the last time I did that (old house), I had to return two different models before I found one that worked properly. Any recs from Skynet? |

If one starts sounding erroneously, then odds are the others will sooner or later. Kind of like changing only one of the CFL bulbs in a multi-lamp fixture - it doesn't match the others which are nearing their end of service life. IIRC BRK (the old First Alert) is the big supplier to the box stores. Please define "work properly" - are there other detectors and you want to keep them tied together? If so, you may need to keep them all the same brand. (It's not supposed to be that way, but...) FWIW Firefighter/Paramedic and Licensed Electrician |

I'd have sent you the one i tore out of the ceiling in London while I was on vacation there.
There was this loud alarm, I was half asleep, used too much force, and it turned out to be the building fire alarm...
It might still be sitting on the table where I left it in the one hotel, if you want a replacement. |
