The World as we know it has ended.  A new civilization has started.  In order to be let through the gate, you have to prove your trade/employment is important to civilization.

Why or why not!

Personally i'm screwed, Man will live on without helicopter mechanics

My family owns a feed store. I know more about crops and livestock than many of the people who grow them for a living. I'd say that counts.

Can you build a home out of stone or hand-sawed wood? Modern building materials could be history.

Half the builders would be stuck with their thumbs up their asses if they ran out of caulk.

Yes.  I'll be engineering your structures.  You say you won't need engineered structures?  That would be wrong, your engineer will save resources.

I have a couple of other skills that will help accelerate the climb out of a dark age.  I'll bring blackberry plants.

I am a certified ASE master technician, although I no longer work in the trade, and to tell the truth it isn't that hard to get ASE Master cert, L1 wasn't even to tough.

Currently I am a cable guy, I doubt that there will be a lot of CATV needs in the post apocalyptic future.

I do know how to generate electricity using fairly commonly available resources, and I can make broken electronics of all kinds work. I spent over twelve years working for phone companies, both circuit switched and wireless as a technician and engineer, electricity and electronics are not something that the world will ever forget about, they will always play an important role in civilization, even after the apocalypse. The use of electricity would likely be the difference between successful survivors and the ones who last a while but just don't make it long term.

I drive a taxi. People gotta be moved around. Critical supplies have to be delivered.

I'm semi-essential. Civilization CAN go on without cabbies, but we definitely make things go more smoothly.
