I am thinking of getting into kayaking since there is a club near me. My question is, is there a large proportion of extreme left wing environmental nuts in the sport or is it fairly mixed left, right, central ?
I've been kayaking for a few years now. There are a good amount of left wingers but there are also plenty of right wingers to. I've never really had a problem. It's all about the whitewater and having fun. Nobody ever really talks about politics or business, just paddling. Sometimes you'll find yourself in a conversation about the environment but I always have fun arguing with them. Go give it a try, it's fun. I suggest taking a week end class, it's harder then it looks.
Kayaking is the only hobby I'm more passionate about then guns. I've met some cool people through kayaking. Yeah, there are a lot of granola and birkenstock types, but plenty of action junkies too. I met one guy who had made a custom holster to carry a g19 in his boat, and has offered to help me put one together. One thing I've found is that people in kayaking are always willing to give you a hand or teach you something. If you get in to trouble, other paddlers are always ready and willing to come save your ass. I've seen some Obama stickers and shit, but politics never really comes up. People just want to get outside and enjoy themselves.
