I am thinking of getting into kayaking since there is a club near me. My question is, is there a large proportion of extreme left wing environmental nuts in the sport or is it fairly mixed left, right, central ?

To ask the question is to answer it

Just go out now and buy a Subaru or a Volvo and plop that coexist sticker on the back.

I'd have written in VW's as well, but the Thule roof-racks seem to only show up on the subarus or volvos.

I fish a lot out of mine!  Not all kayakers are left wing loons!

I've been kayaking for a few years now.  There are a good amount of left wingers but there are also plenty of right wingers to.  I've never really had a problem.  It's all about the whitewater and having fun.  Nobody ever really talks about politics or business, just paddling.  Sometimes you'll find yourself in a conversation about the environment but I always have fun arguing with them.  Go give it a try, it's fun.  I suggest taking a week end class, it's harder then it looks.

Kayaking is the only hobby I'm more passionate about then guns. I've met some cool people through kayaking. Yeah, there are a lot of granola and birkenstock types, but plenty of action junkies too. I met one guy who had made a custom holster to carry a g19 in his boat, and has offered to help me put one together. One thing I've found is that people in kayaking are always willing to give you a hand or teach you something. If you get in to trouble, other paddlers are always ready and willing to come save your ass. I've seen some Obama stickers and shit, but politics never really comes up. People just want to get outside and enjoy themselves.

Ive never had a liberal paddle up to me , no idea why

Here it leans to the right but it is a white male dominated sport . Only granola munchers Ive ran across were a couple of yak snobs on carbon touring yaks .

I kayak.  Some of my buddies kayak.  No Subarus.  Lots of ARs.

I mostly do fishing out of my kayak, and most of the other people i meet seem pretty conservative too.

Paddle for the fun of it. Sure, you'll run into a few folks from the far side.

I'd rather go paddling that shooting but that isn't a choice I often have to make.

Go get your stick wet
