Posted this in another thread, but figured the traffic in the GD might help. My Ipod Touch does not display an IP address under my settings,I need it to run some apps. What am I doing wrong? In before the "Fail" shit storm.......

Check it from your router's web interface if you use one.

On any screen, wipe your finger across the top of the screen.

This should drop down an info screen with the things you need.

It will show your Wi-Fi IP address, among other things.

I think that only works on jailbroke phones/ipods with sbsettings

I wouldn't think the whatismyip would work.

I'm assuming you want your local IP address (the 192.168.1.x), not your global IP address.

If that is the case, access your router (usually Http://192.168.1.1), then go to Status ->Lan devices (or something similar, when your IP is connected).

If you want your global IP address, then go to whatismyip.com, as somebody else suggested.

Which IP address you need depends on what kind of a program you are trying to run.  Some programs might need both, one to connect to the device, and the other to enable port forwarding on the router.

Settings > General > Network > Select the Network you are connected to > Tap the blue arrow, it will take you to the IP address.

Settings-check
General-check
Network-check but says "VPN not configured" and "W-Fi  not conected"
If I click on Wi Fi it asks me to choose a network and list "Litonet" with the blue arrow
I click on the blue arrow and "DHCP" is highlighted with a list of "IP adress, Subnet Mask, Router, DNS" etc and they are all blank

When I open up Safari, it asks me to Select a Wi Fi Network and lists "Litonet", when I click on Litonet it asks for a password?

What I am trying to do is use an App that will allow me to take a Word Doc and store it on my i touch. I downloaded "ReaddleDocs" from Itunes. Man, how user unfriendly this is becoming....

Is Litonet your wireless network?

If so does it have security? That would be your password.

I will have to ask the wife. Why do I need Wi Fi to transfer a Word Doc??? Is there an easier way?

whatismyip.com reports your external global ip address, not your internal ip address.
