I want to start carrying my LCP while running and working out at the gym.  I am considering buying this belly band holster, but am concerned that the retention may not be sufficient over the course of a 4 or 5 mile run.

Can you all recommend something from experience that would fit the bill?  Thanks ahead of time for your help.

Yeah,

i would not bother.

its just not feasible - all the sweat will just make a mess of things

I carry my Kel-Tec (same size as your LCP) with a belt clip, IWB of my running shorts, behind the right hip.  Been wearing it trail running and to the gym for years, never had a problem with it coming loose.  Just cinch of the waist drawstring good and tight –– the gun is not going anywhere.

Someone in another thread suggested, if open carry is permitted, just to run with the gun in your hand

running particular is the one time i always open carry in a OWB holster, mainly to keep the sweat off my pistol.  i would stick with a retention holster too.  inside a gym i would use my CTAC.

ETA:  my work out shorts have belt loops allowing this.

I've always carried my G26 (in fact it's the main reason I bought that particular Glock) while running.  I cover anywhere from 3-6 miles on average runs and it's never been an issue.

I've used a very small "fanny pack" to good effect, and for certain runs when i use a camelback it goes in the zippered pouch on it (albeit sacrificing accessibility - but it's closer than it would be in my safe or Jeep).

For those who say "why"?

I run roads, trails and the occasional track.  The track I use for speed training is in a decent area, but has b-ball courts that collect street thugs in the evenings.  I've also had issues with dogs and wild hogs, and have seen cougars on 2 of the trails I run.

My question would be "why not"?  So you add 7 and 1/4 ounces to a 200 pound body?

It's nowhere as hindering as a camelback or the rubber canteens we'd carry on PT runs in 29 Palms...

If you can't hack that little extra weight, run harder.  It'll get easier...

"Yeah, I'm a billy badass - so I carry on the couch and keep a zip-loc'd Glock in my toilet tank.  But it's just not feasible to do so when I'm out in the public, physically exerted and winded, far from my vehicle and task fixated...  I'd never need a gun, then - I'm already running, after all..."

Buy a cheapo tourist-looking fanny pack and carry with that in the gym.
While running...well, I did see an ad for a safety vest looking thing with a built-in holster a couple years back but I don't recall who makes it.
Me, I just take my chances while running.  I have enough to carry just carrying me.

I carry my S&W 642 when I run at night, or on one of our fairly isolated forest trails in town.  I use a running-specific pack from Nathan that is very light and breathable, and it works perfect.  The key is that I only carry my gun and one piece of ID, and nothing else.  If you get a pack that is not designed for runners, you will end up with something too bulky.  The Nathan pack is so small, flat and light, I don't even notice it is there.  It carries snug, and does not bounce around at all.

Nathan runners pack

My 642 barely fits in it––a Keltec or Ruger LCP would be perfect.

Many years ago I bought a wrap around waist band that was designed to carry a portable CD player. The CD player pouch has a Velcro flap. I carry my J-Frame and 10 extra rounds in there. It works great for jogging. It basically looks like a 3" wide nylon belt with a pouch large enough to hold a portable CD player.

I am always prepared for the worst possible scenario,  especially when I PT since my enemies may attack when I am tired.

Why not?  Why carry at all then?  You do not get to pick and chose when you will need a gun.

So i guess I'm the only one who carries a PT92? I know, i know, but its the smallest gun i have, and noone has said anything about the runner with a gun yet.

I just wear my regular rig for working out, I don't run but I think it would cause blistering on a long run, maybe something like this for running?

I used to run 3.5 miles with a G23 strapped to my side. Outside the waist band with a belt, but I can tell you it wasn't that fun. Loose cargo shorts and a t shirt made my concealed go open carry more than I liked.

OP, I run with the same belly band with a 642.  You will not have any issues with retention, I assure you.

I cannot believe with the recent shooting in a gym that people still don't think you need to carry everywhere you go.  I can honestly say the only place I do not carry is swimming, but I am going to figure a way to fix that problem.  (I am thinking possibly JackAss style )
