I have the opportunity to buy a PWA lower.  I live in Nazi NY so for me to have all the evil stuff it needs to be pre ban.  The SN# is 257XX.  The cutoff I think is 35000 or so.  Anyone care to verify this?

TAG because I own a PWA too and am interested!

I'd probably doublecheck with another source

I also own preban PWA lowers.

There's a Brownell PDF floating around that lists cut off numbers for different manufacturers, and as stated above, its somewhere north of 35000

Go for it man.  I have 7 preban PWA lowers.  2 are A2 lowers with the rest being A1 style.

That is the second source I have read about that number 35,222.  I will take it.

I had one, I believe the post ban ones have a date stamp on the side, mine did.  They're good lowers, they were machined at LMT.

PWAs are good lowers... I have a "preban" one that I bought during the AWB days.

I saw a Colt preban lower forsale for $650 and I would buy that instead.

The PWA is $450 complete with stock.

I think the guy with the colt will go down to $600. The Colt is in 100% perfect condition. You never lose money on a colt preban lower. I sold one for $900.

Does it have a date stamped into the magwell on the other side?

Negative, nothing like that.

Serial number 425XX on the receiver, nothing more on either side.

Federal AWB law required that the AR lower be assembled into a weapon before the ban took effect.

Does NY State law copy this?

It shouldn't.  CT and MA don't require this, regardless of what some seem to think.

Also, anything PWA after 35,222 is not preban.

it does but it is on the government to prove that it wasn't assembled into a complete rifle before the ban went into effect which is pretty much impossible.

Do you have the actual verbiage that says this in the statute?

I have  two bought from dealers, both in the 4x,xxx range, one in Jan 2000 and the other in Aug 2004 and no year prefix and nothing on the side.

Yeah my brother wrote that.

ETA: There is no law on the books in NY requiring the rifle to be complete before the ban.  That was in Federal Law not NYS law.

35,222 is indeed the cutoff.... $450 is a good price.
