So I'm visiting my local gun shop last week and bullshitting with the owner and the counter jockey, we start talking about carry guns and the CJ whips out his HK USP, drops the mag and hands it to me without checking the chamber. "Why would you hand me a loaded weapon" I asked. "It's not loaded, I don't carry one in the chamber" he said. I was amazed that under the circumstances that he would not carry condition 1. So I asked the owner if he had one in the pipe at the moment. He shook his head no. ![]() So, I'm at the range last Thursday setting up targets and the other gent that was there shooting and I start talking, he's also carrying condition 3. He carries in his pocket and was concerned about a ND. I didn't realize it was that prevalent. How do you carry and why? |
|
In on 1 as well.
I tend to carry either a G19 or G26 nowadays. At first, I was hesitant to carry one in the pipe, then I just kept doing it until I got used to it. Use a good holster. Keep your booger hook off the bang switch. I wouldn't carry one in my pocket with one in the chamber. If I pocket carry, I use the trusty 638 or 442. You need to realize that YOU must control YOUR weapon ALWAYS. If you have a ND, AD, or whatever you want to call it, it is YOUR fault. |
|
I carry one in the pipe if I am comfortable with the gun. A new gun usually does not have one...as I like to dry fire them at times. Re-chambering rounds over and over is not a good idea, so I don't like to have to eject a round to dry fire.
I have 3 pistols in condition 1, and 3 that are not loaded. Two of the three have magazines that are loaded, and one of them is BRAND spanking new...never been to the range yet. I keep it fully unloaded. |

I really didn't think there was any other way to carry a weapon other than it being loaded. This! I plan on using my weapon if I pull it. Its been shown many times that an attacker with a knife can get to you from 10-15 feet back (I believe that's the distance) by the time you pull your weapon. If you have to then chamber a round your fooked... |

Ask yourself these questions:
How many gun fights have you been in? How many of those gun fights required you to react in a split second? How often do you put yourself in situations where the likelyhood of a gunfight increases dramatically? i.e hanging out in the ghetto. If you answered none, none, never. then there is really no reason to carry condition 1 other than you like feeling like a badass. You simply like coming on gun boards and telling everyone that you have perfect gun handling techniques and only idiots have ND, it'll never happen to you. Let me break it down for you. Condition 3 equals ZERO chance of an ND Condition 1 equals a slight, but still possible chance of an ND. I hate to break your heart, but you are never going to be the hero who saves the day with his 1911. All you are ever going to do, in all likelyhodd, is carry your condition 1 weapon on your hip and it will see the same amount of fight time as my condition 3 weapon. Flame suit on, and I can't wait for the first dipshit to try and tell me I've had a lack of training.

I believe that carrying in the following condition is the safest: Semi-auto handgun with trigger and cable lock in my R rear pocket. Keys in R Front pocket. Loose ammo in L Front pocket. Magazine in L Rear pocket. Thats how I roll. I love condition 87 Does anyone carry his 1911 cocked and not locked? |

Quoted: Quoted: Safety on and decocked +1 in the pipe. Oh and IN on one!!!!!! All this. What's the point of an unloaded gun?? I'm not sure really, I guess they practice the Israeli draw. *Shrug* I didn't realize it was that prevalent until I met 3 people in a couple of days that carried condition 3. |

Agreed but you and I both know that weapons handling is sorely lacking for most people. That's why so many people are shot with "unloaded" guns. I checked it and it was indeed empty. |

I won't say you lack training. I will say that training was shit if it left you with this idea. ETA: Or that it didn't "take". |

Does your fire extinguisher carry its load in condition 1, pull pin, squeeze trigger? What are the chances of you having a fire in the home? About the same as a gunfight.....I would rather be ready than not. |
